Hello skippy

I removed the CDV in my M and it has made a subtle difference for the better for sure with first to second gear change smoothness.

I have since removed the CDV in my girlfriends brothers 2004 3.0, and comparing the two CDVs side by side, the one from my M has the smaller hole inside it/larger restriction, which i did not expect having heard people say it makes a bigger difference in non-M cars??

i never get these posts.... its just not an issue i get with my car at all, and never had... so let me ask a question, is their anybody out their that thinks the stock setup is just fine??? i do.

Yep. I've only ever kangarood taking the zed early cold morning with my head up my arse. Thats just lack of driving skills. He does hafcve a point though, it is a triky (by Golf standards) throttle, clutch, gearshift set up, but then so is every other sports car I've driven.

I find gear changes and kangarooing can be helped by making use of 1st a little longer, especially when the engine is cold. Also giving it a few more beans when pulling away does seem to smooth things out a bit and prevent the engine bogging down - compared to the M54 3.0 it feels like the S54 has a lighter flywheel.

the problem seems to manifest itself more often when pulling away at lights and mini roundabouts where you pull away in 1st then have to clutch it again to wait and pull away for a 2nd time in a queue type of situation, for pulling off in clear traffic no problems at all,its just low speed town type driving.(which I hate anyway)

I always used to think what is this crowd on about with the kangooring etc, it couldnt be that bad..Ive never had it..but after reading this post I totally know what you guys mean.

But since purchasing the z4 Ive just adjusted my driving/clutching style (without even knowing it apparently) and rarely kangaroo at all. Personally I think you adjust to a lot of things when in a different car and this is just one of them.

Beedub - maybe you and me are just naturally born drivers and have adjusted without even realising lol

I've never had a problem either although as others have said its not the smoothest gearbox. The heavier, shorter ZHP knob does make a difference though - makes changes seem more direct and positive if you know what I mean.

Agree. The weighted knob is a nice and cheap mod.

i can't say i've ever had an issue with gear changes, other than very occasionally crashing when swapping cogs too fast from redline. I find myself scratching my head a bit too that this is such a popular/common modification

Given that BMW fit the delay valve specifically to protect the clutch from people who can't change gear properly it does make you wonder :P ......
