Hello! Newbie with a few questions

Hi guys, I'm here in search of info. I have done a bit of a search but didn't find anything conclusive.

I'm currently the owner of an MR2 Turbo, running close to 300bhp. I realised last night that I'm actually sitting on about £7k worth of parts and realised that I could buy something a lot newer and more modern if I were to sell everything.

Now, I like Z4's, a lot. But I can't afford a Z4M and the numbers for a standard 3.0i just don't seem tempting enough. Which got me thinking. If I put down say £3.5k and financed £3.5k, I could use what I had left from my fund to buy a supercharger kit. Is there anything decent out there for the money? What sort of power hike are we talking? I'm happy to buy second hand and I am happy to fit myself, provided some sort of instructions are in existence!

And next, what are the options regarding suspension? Can the Z4M setup be added? Is there anything even better? this goes for not only shocks/springs but coilovers and anti roll bars too.

Does the M have a wider track, and if so, can the non M be modified to have the same?

And finally, many thanks for any help that's received. :)

Firstly, welcome.

The biggest problem with the 3.0 if you're going to be charging it, are the brakes. The BMW jobbies aren't great and even the 330 / 3.0si upgrade (on here if you search) won't see much improvement, in my opinion... very underwhelmed, although they do look better!

Suspension on the M is different, so that's not an option without a lot of work and frankly you're better off going with coilovers. Not sure how many have, on here. Have a look at Shooters setup, think he Bilstein's with M springs. But you will want a BBK. Probably upgrade the bushes and spend £100ish on a decent geo too.

Having said all of that. the 3.0 will be a very different experience to the MR2, it doesn't handle as well (based on having seen the Z4 and MR2 back to back with a pro driver at the wheel), but it is fun to drive and the engine has great character. Have a search for Elise to Z4 drivers and you'll get a better perspective.
EDIT: Or a VX 220 driver, just saw this... Geordie Z4C Owner here (came from VXT)

If you're looking for a similar experience to the one you have with the MR2 this is probably the wrong car. If you're after something different and, I would say, a better overall experience, then the Z4 is great

There are a couple non-M supercharged cars on here that are worth a look. If you are charging it also look at the 2.2 and 2.5.

ADD: Drive some and see how you feel... have you considered the S2000? Know a few people with those and they love them... others have moved to the Z4

Cheers. Just realised the Si is in budget too. Are the coupes better than the soft tops? I prefer the coupe looks but would enjoy the soft top.

So are the M cars wider?

If you want power, the 350z has more than the 3.0 z4?

ADD - there are 350zs which are roughly the same £££? Stay away from the 350z roadster as it's overweight and slower than the 350z coupe. As Pawn mentioned, the S2000 is a worthy contender.

And no, a Z4 coupe is not better than a roadster :poke:
