hello all...after owning a z3 2.8 for a few years I decided to look for a z4 I now have a z4 2003 3.0i I am finding it a great car so far the usual one broken spring
which I replaced the two of course :) , after reading up on the z4 I am now worried as I read about the problems with soft top motors I know I should have researched before I bought the car ...as I do most of my own mechanical work this job looks very demanding :? I was wondering is there any cars get away with out the problem.....? any way so far so good love the car a very firm ride with run flats etc.

Hi and welcome to the forum
Have a play with the search function i'm sure there will be plenty of advice and help regarding roof problems

Hello and Welcome!

The best way to prolong the roof motor is to make sure the drain plugs are clear so any water flows away quickly.

As you're about to be reminded multiple times about the intro post...

Hi & Welcome

With regard to the roof just make sure those drains are clear....

Yep, just make sure the drains clear.

Best way to check is just run water into them off the side of the roof and if it doesn't all come bubbling out over the top and is clearly flowing down nicely then the motor should be fine.

It's only when they get blocked up that the motor is submerged and over time the sealing fails and damages the motor.

Welcome along they are great cars. Have a look in the search function about the photos there is a great how to there. But basically set up a photobucket account if haven't already got one. Select the photo there then import it to the forum. I am not going into more detail as i don't want to tell you anything incorrect. I am a long way from knowing what i am doing with a pc.
