Hello & mmi box question

Hello everyone

Recently got a Z4 and would like to install CarPlay and rear camera (maybe front).

mmi boxes seem to vary in price so much. Any suggestions? Mr12volt still recommended?

Photo below for payment in advance 😀

Thanks

Good morning and welcome.
Congratulations on your new purchase

The most recommend mmi box is still the Mr12volt. I have the original version, and I've fitted quite a few to other owners cars since.
Shameless plug - I offer this service to UK owners (and anyone that wants to travel, or pay for me to go there  )
But I've also done a video on how to install them...

For the ones that like to do it themselves.
As for the rear camera, I did make an old video on this that can still be used with the Mr12volt box, but I'm in the process of updating that with new techniques.
There are other mmi boxes available, but all the others connect via the AUX socket (as opposed to the MOST fibre optic network with the Mr12volt box) I'vemade videos on these as well, check out my channel, link in my signature below. Now I never had an issue with the original box type and had one in mine for quite some time before fitting the Mr12volt box. It then went into my sons E93. But it's all down to quality, and personally I can't fault the Mr12volt box
Now you can read opinions that some have had issues with them, and fair play if they have, but owners have had issues with the OE equipment also!

I have Ztuzauto, can't fault it. Half price of Mr12volt.
It has the option of 4 cameras, tried connector to front, but i don't think it's in the BMW software to link.
I should have tried a separate 12 volt supply to camera just to test.

Think i paid around £125 with tax.

When i connected and linked i was caught out by mysterious voice coming through the speakers, then realised phone had already linked and someone was calling me.

Hi

Thanks for the comments and welcome.

MOST fibre optic connection preference due to sound quality.

Looks like will going for Mr12volt, as they have OEM mic option.

Thanks

I purchased a cheap mmi from AliExpress, it works great, but you do have to run a aux cable to the 3.5mm jack in the arm rest, not ideal and use a separate mic.

So if you got funds go for Mr12Volt, you get great install videos and imagine great UK support.

I keep my fingers crossed with my AliExpress one....lol

Welcome to the forum with your lovely E89.

Sorry I can't offer any help with your question though.

Hi me again

It’s looks like this is going to be a bigger job for husband than expected, as Z4 hasn’t got cd changer or cd prep (code 672 or 694)

@AnubisZed, my husband has watched your various video's, what software is needed to do all the coding? inpa, does this come with ncs expert?

Can we PM you various questions?

Thinks in advance .

You'd need BMW Tools suit, which includes INPA, NCSExpert, NCSDummy, Tool32 etc.
You can send me a PM anytime, always happy to help

Why do you need to programme anything.
Sounds like making it complicated.
To be honest going via the 3.5 jack plug the sound is good enough.
What also needs replacing is speakers and adding an amp.
Then all depends on the quality of tracks you play, your hearing and the noise from the car.

The Mr 12 Volt box transfers its audio via the MOST optical cable network..not via analogue copper..the MMI box mimics the optional CD player to get its audio onto the MOST network..so may need the VO to see that CD is fitted or prepared for..simples..

Yes, as B21 says.
The company state that it's only for vehicles that already have the CDC fitted from factory, but very few ive seen have it, so this is the get around for everyone else.
There is nothing wrong with the cheaper boxes, when they work. There are a lot of the "cheap" boxes being sold from European and UK sellers as far more expensive, so be warned as they are exactly the same quality (Disclaimer- as I've stated before I had no issues with my original box, and it worked perfectly fine in my sons E93).
