Hello,

Im now a Z4 owner 2003 2.5 SE :)

i need some advice please - my girlfriend was messing about pushing buttons she shouldnt have been pushing and appears to have broken the roof release button (in the middle console between the seats - above the CD changer compartment button)

The button is now depressed in one corner - the right hand side, and flush to the trim in the other, its at an angle.

has anyone else had this happen? is there an easy fix or is it a trip down to the dealer?

we have tried to pull the clip up and flush to the rest of the panel, however it wont stay up and drops back down (like the spring behind it is broken)

Any advice would be really useful

I don't have useful suggestions, but i do offer my sympathy.

Is Girlfriend feeling rather guilty?
Had someone break the cupholder in my current car by over-fiddling with it. He didn't feel even the slightest bit of remorse, and even carried on fiddling with it after I got it fixed.

Hopefully someone will be around shortly that will give you a quick fix

re the broken part,is it no.14 the one shown in this image:

sorry,no idea how to fix it but if you need to get a new part,bmminiparts sells them delivered for about £37 or you can always check with Joe @ Sopers BMW Lincoln - don't forget to mention the forum.

Spares manager (I think) called Joe at Sopers in Lincoln gives good discount for spares etc but mention the Forum if you contact;

Yeah, this has happened to me before when a friend was doing the same and pressing everything that looked like it would do something.

Its the top one on 14 that catches the roof when it is down.

It is just caught on one side. i think i just lowered the roof till the catch engaged and it popped back to being flush.
 
Maybe suggest to the girlfriend that she may want to make up for it one way or another? :evil:

If it is just stuck in one corner I'd have thought you could pop it back again, but wait until the gf has finished her penance before trying :D
