Hello everybody

I've been lurking around a little bit so thought I'd make my introductions!

My name is Oliver and I'm looking at buying a second-hand Z4 Coupe in the next month or two. At the moment I'm wrestling with the choice of the Z4 coupe or a 1 series Coupe, my heart says Z4, but my head (and partner) say 1-series. I play in a band so being able to get a passenger and a bass into the car would probably be a bonus. I also live in London so getting the car past 20 mph would be reasonably rare. But at the same time i'm childless and probably don't have that many years of "selfish" driving ahead of me and well you only live once.

I haven't actually owned a car for the past 5 years as have been living in Zone 1 where I couldn't justify it. But am moving a bit further out and so will be able to commute to work in a car, not cramped public transport. My last car was a MR2 (mk3) which I enjoyed immensely. I used to take part in the MR2 forum so know how much people can be into their cars – look after them, tweek them etc. Hence when I do buy it’s likely someone from this forum.

get a roadster then head room isnt a problem your bass could stand in the passenger foot well :P
+1 :D

amazing what you can get in a roadster :D

welcome along

I like either car so can't really help...

If your going to commute then you know its 'greener' not to have too many empty seats in your car = get the roadster

Welcome. I got a Z4 roadster as I got sick of being the shopping/kids/dog taxi, now my wife has to do all that in her car!

be selfish, get a roadster!

Thanks for the sage advice.

My partner has a z3 so she's humped off that we'll have two cars and still not be able to transport anything anywhere - though I'm trying to convince her to swap to the 1.

If you actually CAN manage ok with the compromise of the Z4 then you won't regret buying it - every trip is a treat.

If, however, the compromise is too much for your practical needs then, believe me, you'll grow to hate it's impracticality in time - and it'll ruin it for you.

Tough decision though.

Go with your head, not your heart if it's your only car - that's me speaking from experience (my wife and I had a 2-seater years ago as our only car, and it was a pain in the ass for everyday use).

Hi & Welcome

Being a guitarist, I can get a strat in the passenger side in a gig bag, and just, one in the boot in a hard case, so I dont think you will get a long scale bass in the boot, but i reckon you will in the passenger side in a gig bag, if that makes sense :D

EDIT; I assume you are not taking amps, combos etc that would be a problem unless you have a baby Trace Elliot

Hey, yep the bass aint going in the boot even with a soft bag. it will go in the passenger well with possibly a squashed up passenger. I don't normalyl take amps as I generally just DI, however my amp is a mesa boogie walkabout which I reckon would just about squeeze in.
