I purchased my 2005 Z4 in July. Joined this forum right away, not realizing it was a European forum and received a very, very warm welcome from everyone. Thank you! Questions were answered. No question was stupid. Being originally from England and still British I was going to stay with this forum but thought it would be good to be part of the American community as well.
I was in error. Things took a nasty turn to a very simple question. Being new to bimmer ownership. She is my first. Of course I am anxious about every little thing. I have left bimmerfest and am happy to rejoin my European counterparts who have been nothing but kind and helpful whenever I have asked a question even if it was kinda stupid.

Here is the thread if you would like to see what I am talking about. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7888097

In the meantime. I have replaced my run flats with Pirellis. Purchased a windscreen from Roadster Solutions. Freaked out over the Service Engine Soon light only to realize that the gas cap wasnt on tight enough. It went away after twenty minutes of tightening. Driven her the 600 miles from North Carolina to New York. Just having a blast with the car and figuring out its quirks.

Duh. Wasnt sure what you meant. Yes I did get one. Just havent put it on yet. It actually expands from 3 to 5 to 10 inches. I purchased it because I was having difficulty put the car cover on.

Not to worry ...
A Stubbie could be lots of things.
On our Zeds its a short radio antenna ! I cut my whip mast in half ! ...Maybe a little more than half ..With a ball bearing on top ! :trampoline:

Then you gots to deal with the Hockey Pucks !!! I cut mine in half ...

After that ..
To Debadge or Not to Debadge
I debadged and thought better of it by painting the badge !!!

And then there is always the question of what to do about those red side lights ?
I stuck white reflective tape over them. Actually I profile cut a disc that fit perfectly

Lots of stuff to do and figure out.
Lots of fun and remember ..
It's your car and you can do what you want with her !!! :driving:

Cheers

Wow. Bumpy. Youve done a lot of stuff. I am new to it so just figuring it out. I do like the shorter antenna. BSVA. I kinda live in both. I have a residence in NY and then also maintain a residence in NC. I am what they call a "snowbird". I fly down south for the winter so to speak, thereby extending my Z4 experience to all year round. Will be headed to NC in the next week or so.

myz913, live in SE Virginia, but also have a place at the NC OBX coast. Originally from upper state NY.

hello and welcome

just read the post in bimmerfest, I think to be fair things like this happen, it shouldn't but it does, maybe its up to an OP to just read the wanted comments and not worry about others

totally agree with you that there are no stupid questions, we can't all know everything and we have to start somewhere and that's often by asking questions

Welcome back, this place is pretty friendly, we get the odd new poster trying to make an impression, but after awhile they tend to quieten down to the forum way or decide its not for them. Occasionally there is the odd comment that causes a real reaction but usually when opinion is sort, "Shiny new seat covers" and it's a forum so you should expect both positive and negative opinions as we are all different

Oh and then there is woots :o

Shipkiller is on here too, though I don't think that I have heard him quite so forthright on here, he may have given you sound advice though, is it resolved?

nice little touches there, particularly like the thin hockey pucks, allways thought they were just too thick. how did you go about cutting them in half , never had one out, figure they have a bayonet fitting in the back or something do they go straight back in ok or need modding. thanks :driving:

I just returned from a trip to Boothbay Harbor Maine.
Actually took a route that went from Waterdown NY over to Stowe Vt and on to the coast.
Here we are back in Watertown

Used my Tom Tom but chose the "Alternative" route.
Was lost most of the time and just trusted Tom Tom Magic to get me there.
Boothe Bay Harbor ...Beautiful !!!!

Just kidding - This is Venice but Boothbay Harbour is beautiful too

Lots of good roads around that route, but the Stowe to Boothbay was amazing.
Twisty Rollercoaster roads, great asphalt and light traffic in September.
Only downside was all the old people travelling in September !!
Im 61 and seeing the future brings walkers or worse !!!!
Encourages you to make hay while the sun shines cause...
Well you probably already know that, being a Snowbird and all.

Lets see some pics of your Zed !

Hockey Pucks are twist and pull to remove.
Somewhere on here I have a description of the mod but hardly any pics and most were confused by my description
Before cutting mark a reference line to allow you to align the parts when you reglue them.

Basically used masking tape to protect the lens I wanted to keep and provide a nice layout line to cut on.
Hacksaw with a fine blade ..Scored the cut around the circumference and then just worked the cut deeper until parted.
A fresh piece of sandpaper taped to a countertop to true up the cut base.
Use pliers to snap off the waste lens still attached to the white plastic (A few relief cuts help to direct the break)
JB Weld or similar quality epoxy to reattach.
The stock bulb fits perfectly ..

Only disappointment came about a year later when I tried to fit led bulbs which were slightly too long. Maybe just the model of led ???
Im working on that ...That's the fun for me
Well most of the fun :titshake:

Thanks everyone for being so supportive and welcoming. The Brits definately have class :). To be fair the gentleman from Virginia and Canada have been very welcoming also. Will add myself to the map.

Hopefully shipkiller and his cronies will not bother answering any of my questions. Too bad he doesnt need a european union passport to get in. I still have my brit passport so that would so end that.

OK. I'll bite. What is a woots??

Not what is a woots, but who.

Stick around, you will soon find out. He has been quiet recently though. :?
