Hi there.

I've had my 2004 Z4 2.5 SE since Nov 19 and am very happy with it. Am I right in guessing that mines an e85 rather than an e86?

I'm based in North Shields. Are there any fellow members nearby? Do you ever meet up?

Also, I don't suppose someone nearby has a Carly? I quite like the idea of remote roof opening and closing, and would like to get the windows to go all the way back up after the roof folds down. Has anyone done that to their car with Carly or similar?

Cheers
Dan

Hi and welcome to the forum
The e85 is a convertible and the e86 a coupe
Lets see some photos of yours

Hi Dan, welcome to the forum.

I'm from Sunderland but only had the car and been a member on here since September.

I don't have Carly but I did just fit the Gap-tech module which works a treat.

We have quite a few runs around the Scottish Borders and further afield..look at the meeting sub forum..we (The Scottish Clan) can grant youa temporary visa to visit us!! :driving:

Way aye fella. Welcome to the forum.

Something to bear in mind that using the remote fob to open/close the roof will take it's toll on the key battery.
Yes, it's a rechargeable battery but you will be increasing significantly the duty cycle of the battery and shortening it's life and they're not easily replaceable.

I coded mine to open/close from the key but I actually don't use it anymore. Yeah, it looks swag but I only have one keyfob so it's a bit of a risk now.

Hi from NZ and welcome to the forum. Good point on the key fob hood activation, you’ll find lots of helpful hints here on the forum. Look forward to seeing some photo’s. Cheers.

Hi and welcome aboard.

I see photos have already been mentioned...…………….!

Here is a link to those on here who have Carly:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=97818

Welcome to the land of the Z4. An 85 is the perfect way to enjoy the summer. 8)

Hello and welcome!
I’m originally from North Shields albeit over 40yrs ago

It’s definitely worth getting yourself on a the Borders Run don’t worry about the visa tho!

Hi All,

I’ve quite got the hang of posting picture on forums but here’s a link (I think) to a few pics of my car. It’s what I think the Americans would refer to as triple black, black paint, black roof, black leather interior.

Also, thanks for the feedback about the remote roof stuff. I’ve got three remote keys but don’t want to run them all flat! The Carly gadget plus annual subscription seems a bit much too. I’ll have a bit more of a think about it!

And thanks for the invites to the Scottish Borders and the BMW car Club NE. I’ll have a proper look at both soon.

Cheers Dan

Dumb newbie question!!! Could have read that on Wikipedia! Was there a mid life engine update for the e85/86 though? Think that might be what I was thinking of, that or I’ve just gotten muddled up altogether!

Regarding remote operation of the roof and one touch operation of the roof buttons inside car....

That gap tech does what I’m after. Is it as easy to fit as they make out?

It is straightforward but you should ideally solder or use good quality crimp connectors - not the Scotchloks they provide.
