Hello from the north east UK - e89 owner

hello, just registered as ive recently purchased a E89 35i S, 2010 plate. Ive owned a lot of BMW's in the past, M3's, CSL, M5 V10 and a few X5's. Ive spent the last 8 years in Mitsubishi evos, purely for track days and competed in a national sprint series for evo's with good success, both of my evos were running 650bhp + and also own a parts company, evo parts and performance. i bought the E89 as im a little tired of evo's now and want to coe back to something more reliable and rear wheel drive. the car i have bough has had a fairly heavy front end smash, its being jigged as we speak and im just about to start getting it completed and then on with some modifications to its performance, finding it hard to research actually on the various ecu modifications/pigghybacks and flashes that are out there. this will be a track car for me (not everybodies cup of tea) and will be using it to enjoy some of the nice long tracks that evos just dont cope with very well, Cadwell, Silverstone, the ring/spa etc.

any of your help would be greatly appreciated but the key things im strugling with at the minute are

Brakes - such a let down for such a special car, i can getthe front brakes srted out with bigger replacements but what about the rears, has anybody managed to solve the electronic handbrake yet?

Suspension - looking for KWv3 or clubsports but what issues would i have with the adaptive suspension, does it through up lights

mapping - whats the increases like with a full decat system, inter cooler and good mapping

Gearbox - what are these 7 speed box like with increased power and heavy work, any issues that need to be addressed

thanks and look forward to your responses

Welcome to the forum, good to see another member from the North East :)
A very impressive car history you have, 650+ Bhp evo's must be rather special.

Good luck modifying your 35is, sounds very interesting. Unfortunately I am not the best person to provide advice on the best modifications, however there shall be plenty of others on here to help out

Welcome along. Really decent car history! :worshipbmw:

Look forward to seeing how you get on with the e89, some good plans.

Welcome to the forum, I will be watching this thread with interest

thanks for all of the replies. ive always like the Z4 and been tinkering with the idea for a while, hit 40 this year  so thought my 8 year stint was misson accomplished and time for a new project. Ive not even drove the car yet (apart from off the trailer and into my workshop) but cant waiting to get it up and running, dialed in and out for its first bonding session. yes ive been fortunet with my previous cars, that was before the wife and 4 children come along, money isnt quite as good now. anyway, here are the last 2 evos:

right, sorry for boring you with all of my evo stuff, onwards and upwards with the new BMW

managed to get the KW V3 info through and they are available with the adaptive damping still in place or without and a delete kit for electronics, just need to figure out which is the better option, really need to get out in the car and have a feel for it first

Welcome to the forum - looking forward to watching your foray into e89 modification if your Evo journey is anything to go by

We will need lots of pics and discussion about what you're doing - and whilst I don't want to divert you away from here, you may want to have a peek on z-post. It's more US-biased in terms of it's membership, but there appear to be a higher proportion of people who do deep performance / mechanical modification of e89s... Which may help if/when you hit a roadblock.

If it's going to be such a serious track car are you going to end up fusing the roof on for safety and weight reduction ?
