Hello from sunny Ireland

Welcome!

Great looking car there!

I regularly travel to Longford (when the world isn’t on hold due to covid) and the roads once off the M4 are stunning- I often wish that I was in something better than the hore company provide

The forum is great and as I’m sure you’ve seen a fantastic resource to keep these great cars on the road!

It’s based on engine size for cars registered Pre-July 2008. 3.0 litre engines are €1494 to tax per year. Mine is 2007 so that’s what I pay.

It’s based on CO2 emissions from July 2008 onwards. As Calps has a 2009 car he could verify this but a quick check on Google shows the Z4 Coupe emits 216g/km so it’d be €1200 tax per year. Any car emitting 225g/km or over is €2,350 a year!

How much?

I knew it was expensive, but didn't realise quite how expensive! Makes £570 a year for the MC look pretty reasonable.

There are loads of options for stubby aerials but I bought a PSA one which went with my previous Z4 - so long as it's an M6 thread it will fit.

I'll try to remember that when I have to renew mine at the end of the year!

No wonder your new daily is a hybrid. Based on what I read above my 2005 330i daily would cost €1494 a year. :o

Irish run!?! We're just doing the Scottish Highlands and have plans to do Ireland next year so it would be great to tie it in with whatever you have planned.

OP - I've heard the road tax is astronomical over there for 3.0 so make sure you get your moneys worth!!

Yes, we were ready to meet here in Dublin and then travel South and West ... will share the original itinerary.

Hopefully next year we will manage to turn the plan into reality. It would be great to meet again.

If you think the road tax for the 3.0 is astronomical, wait until you find out what is the road tax for the M!

Anyway, it is well worth it!

A

Hi Attilio,
Let me know when you're planning an Irish meet for Next year, Thanks

P.s,Pmd you

Hi all,

New Z4C owner here. I've been hiding (lurking sounds too sinister) in the shadows of the forum for almost a year now (learning lots BTW, thanks very much), but having finally picked up my Z earlier this year, it's about time I made myself known.

Like many new owners I have questions, so so many questions, but if my time on here has thought me anything, it's that this-post-is-worthless-without-pics, so in time honoured tradition I'd like to introduce you to Mel Z

I've wanted a coupe for years, but they are uncommon, possibly verging on rare (although that's probably more relevant for the M) here in Ireland, so it's been a long journey as they're rarely up for sale (plenty of roadsters though).

As a result, this is originally a UK car, which I bought from a dealer in Northern Ireland, and moved to Irish plates for silly money (Irish VRT - if you know, you know).

She's a late 2008 build (registered in March 2009, so possibly among the last sold???) sport model, sapphire black, with beige/cream interior, nav, and brushed aluminium dash (which I will changing/spraying/replacing as soon as I get the chance).

Bought in February, but because of you-know-what, it's only been on the road since August (and will be sorn'd at the end of this month until early next year) During that time though I did the usual suspension change to Eibach springs & Bilstein shocks, reconditioned the ABS pump, oil change, some new bulbs, and a stubby of course (ducks) :fuelfire:

Plenty of plans, from wheels, to interior changes, to engine mods, but your guess is a good as mine as to when they'll be realised though.

Anyway, that's my lot. Looking forward to learning more from you all, and maybe even contributing some value along the way as well.
Nice looking car,op.
Yes,you can get some good advice from on here, been a good source of info over the years.

Welcome along, and hopefully catch you at a meet, cheers

Lovely Z4C Calps! I also purchased a Z4C earlier this year, red with red interior. I’m in Cork.

I actually got to take it for a spin on the Copper Coast Drive one fine sunny evening in September

I must also do the stubby aerial mod, where did you get yours from? So many different options come up when I’ve searched online

Thanks ShootingBrake, and congrats on your own purchase as well. Mine is off the road now until March/April, but that road is on the list for a jaunt once we can venture further afield again. My stubby was a Peugeot/Citroen part from eBay iirc

Cheers Bigwinn, the N4 is my route home to my parents, so it will be frequented quite a bit. Once you're past Mullingar and off the motorway, the roads are incredibly enjoyable, and I'd rarely pass up an opportunity to stop off at Luigi's for some chips on the way either!

Yes, can confirm I benefit ever so slightly having the post-2008 car. It's not my daily though - I only plan on having it on the road for about 50% of the year, so will be taxed in either 3 or 6 month blocks and then SORN'd for the remainder. It is crazy money though, and that's before you get to insurance. As I'm sure Atillo and ShootingBrake are already aware, Irish insurers do not entertain multicar insurance, so I've had to get a second policy for this, which is another €1100/year. Madness for a second car with limited use, but that's the price you pay for nice things/self indulgence here. I feel for Atillo having the tax the M though - ouch!

Each to their own, there's no judgement here, and that can be a long enough drive

Welcome Calps...
I am over in East Wicklow with a E89 28i....so a spritely trip over Glendalough with Attilio may be the order of the day when this blasted Covid lockdown lifts.....

Hi bluetooth,

Great to see another Irish member, and not too far away from me either (relatively speaking). I cycle that area regularly, and have always thought the roads around Glendalough, particularly over the Wicklow Gap out to Blessington lakes, or by Lough Tay, would make for a smashing drive. Definitely worth looking at, if just for a small meet-up, once we're free to roam around again next year!
