So, I am changing from a periodic lurker to actually posting something!
Long time car enthusiast (was admin of another specific car forum some years back), generally not so much BMW's, but have always had a soft spot for the Z4.
Now in the fortunate position where I can hopefully get one soon.

So, before I post in the for sale/wanted section, I felt it would be good manners to come and introduce myself :)
Have to say, this place appears to be very well run with a genuinely friendly vibe throughout. From experience, I know how much work that requires so respect to the admins and moderators (y)

Hello and welcome, good luck with the search. Do you have a either a type in mind or a budget to work from. The current model is the third generation of the Z4 and if you ask any other forum member, their model is always the best one to have :D

But as everyone now knows, the M40i Handschalter is so obviously the best one to have

Are you pondweed alter ego?

A slightly in dig…

Welcome…it may help you /us/ mankind if you hint at which type of Zed you are looking at?..with 3 generations, 4 body wheels , over 12 engines and 10 gearboxes it may help all!🧐😂🙈

Could be worse.....he (or she) could be yours. No hang on, he (or she) can't be as the first post wasn't arrogant enough and didn't spout a load of shite recited verbatim from Google. ;)

sars, being a Yorkshire man would obviously say his is best. As you are buying a BMW , a straight six has to be the choice. Just so smooth and powerful. Back in time my company BMW was a 320i when they still had 6cyls. V8 or 6cyl is a must for me !

Hi and welcome to what is generally a friendly forum, although there are exceptions.

I have to disagree with sars though as Z4M is obviously the one to have for that epic S54 engine with the 8,000rpm red-line! :D

Morning all :)
Thank you for the (mostly ;)) friendly replies.
As I have no idea who the heck Pondweed is/was that was lost on me.

So, the details of what I am looking for? I was going to put that in a post on the classified section, but since you asked...

28i or 35i E89. Not worried whether manual or auto. Post 2010 please, ideally >2013 so a facelift model.
History more important than mileage (it won't be doing more than 6k a year) and not too fussed on colour.
Must have heated seats (wife's statement, not mine). Proper sound system would be preferable.

Budget is around £10k (which will make finding a 35i "challenging" I expect).
Location is basically anywhere in in UK as who doesn't love a combination of one way train ticket, hope and a road trip? :)

N54 aside (35i engine), is there a specific reason you would want a 28i over the 18i or 20i?
It is well documented that the N20 engine in all of them is identical apart from the factory mapping. An 18i or 20i with a cheap aftermarket map will give everything a 28i will (apart from very slightly smaller front brakes) at a much lower purchase price.
For your budget you should be able to get the very best low mileage 18i or 20i, a very good 28i or a mediocre 35i.
Heated seats were a 'stand alone' (not part of a pack) extra on all E89s IIRC but many were optioned with them.

If you look for a late, end of production, car (late 2015 to 2016) they will generally have many options fitted as standard, as BMW wanted to get rid of them so threw toys at them.

and off I go to look at the ones suggested. 👍
It is also tradition to put links to prospective cars on the forum so we can pull them apart and tell you how overpriced and crap they are! It's just the way we roll.

I can send links to plenty of them! There are plenty of hopeful people out there with their pricing.

As far as the good ones go, well that is where I tend to post AFTER I have bought the car as I got stung once before by posting something I thought looked good (a Lexus GS430), only to find someone else agreed and promptly bought it without even looking at it!

I really should put a post in the classifieds as this thread is going well off the topic of saying hello 🤔
