Hey guys,

Nice forum; very intuitive and informational. Looking at joining the list of proud Z4 owners shortly :D . I'm in fact looking at a vehicle today. It's an '07 Z4 M Roadster, blue with 41 000kms, FSH and some maintenance plan left.

I've read the posts on what to check and have a pretty good idea of how to go about it, however I would like to know more about how it goes when you run out of motorplan.
Based on the specs, I have a couple of months left on motorplan, and from the looks of it, I'll spend less in the long run having it dealt with by BMW specialists instead of the dealers.

I know there are horror stories and so forth, but what cuts at the end of the day? I'm planning on keeping the vehicle till about 150 000km over 4 years. So any advice would be appreciated.

Regards

Welcome to the forum... I love SA (even imported my wife from there!)... where abouts are you from?

I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as you have specialists there, certainly over here I wouldn't even consider the main dealer for most things. Largely they are quite reliable and the main things that go wrong is stuff like broken springs, for which more and more people are replacing with aftermarket anyway.

Post some pics when you get chance.

Hello and welcome. Some of the worlds best wines come from there (Meerlust in Stellenbosh and Pinot Noirs from Paarl etc).

generally speaking, if its been well looked after and has BMW sramps, then I'd say its a pretty tough motor. You have to remember that they are proper sports cars and as such are designed to take a fair bit of abuse and worked very hard IF well maintained. :!:

The first service intervall is very important to change the running in oil. Problems have been broken springs and engine mount bolts, although that remains uncommon. There is a really good thread for want to be buyers.

Have a good look around and try a few different ones thats the key.

Let us know how it goes.

Wow... either you guys don;t work much, or it's just an overly active forum :P
Thanx for the warm welcomes and all the advice already. I'll keep you all posted on progress...
Status for the moment is still waiting on a call. I'll call them by lunch if I get no response.

Will definately post some pics...

Hi and welcome. Flying back into Africa myself tomorrow but further north than you - South Sudan! There is a pre purchase checklist link in my signature which you may have found.

Right...
Went out for test drive at last. I won't bother telling you all what you already know, but coming from a little Clio RS you can well imagine the experience... :P
I expected heavy and tight driving conditions. After driving a Nissan 370Z for a while not too long ago, this feels lite and nimble in comparison.

There were no issues with the gearbox, nor did I shudder and hop in 1st or 2nd. She pulls clean and strong. Outside is well maintained with few of the usual nicks and chips. The roof works, under the bonnet and in the boot all looked well. I did however notice that the plastic cover that shrouds the radiator is chafing on the bonnet...adjustment required.

Inside I'm a bit concerned with the dash panel / inserts. It's the brushed aluminum ones, which looks cool, but someone must have tried prying it off with a screw driver. I'm assuming this can be replaced fairly easily??? (please say so)
Anyways, I'm sold. Signed for the financials, and I'm hoping for the best... Will be living off bread and butter till next year, but losing weight will only make it faster

Now where do I start looking for CSL wheels...???

Later
