Hello from Oxfordshire

Thought I might drop all a line to say hello.

I entered Z4 ownership last night on an impulse buy and have still not seen my car in daylight!

It looks in lovely condition for a 06 plate 2.5.

Spent most of today trying to get multi car insurance. Nightmare and eventually settledd on Direct Line after falling out with some old Doris who was give me stupid quotes. Managed to get it down by £200 for two cars and managed to do the no claims discount match on second car. Not easy but we got there in the end.

Quick question - this is a 06 2.5 with 63K on the clock. It is saying 9.5K till next service. Will I require a cam belt change at some point soon?

Also, is it normal to have to top up the oil occassionally as I have not needed to do this on any car for as long as I can remember. The chap I brought it from said he tops up about a litre in a year?

Thanks all and hope we have some summer meets lined up.

Blakes03 :-)

Hi and welcome :)

I have a 2.5 pre facelift and I know they are chain driven, so no cam-belt, but the facelift model might be different :!:

nice photos by the way :poke:

Welcome to the forum

I think Navid is right, as far as I know the 2.5 will have a chain, as opposed to a cam belt. Not sure about the oil use you've mentioned. I know that for my engine, a small amount of oil use is not a problem.

Please post some pictures asap! :driving:

Welcome to the forum! How the heck did you get Direct Line to do a NCD match on a second car? I couldn't get them to budge.

Guys,

No pictures yet as they would be in the dark which is no good.

Thanks for the info on Cam Belt info.

Looking forward to taking the motor out for a blast.

Stu - at first they would not budge but i got the Doris I was speaking to to get a manager and then reasoned with her telling them that it is only me on named drivers and I can't drive two cars at once.

I also saved two seperate quotes on line as when I was doing it on the phone they got my Ford to be around £570 but my on line quote was £360!!!!. At first they were insistent on the £570 but then calling them back after I had done the work on line they put it though!!!!

So a Ford Galaxy and a Z4 for roughly £870

Not unhappy with that so paid on the spot and cancelled by ESure!

I shall have a conversation come renewal time. Similar mix, I have an S-Max as the daily workhorse and an Alpina Roadster S as the weekend plaything. Insurance companies are legalised highway robbers.

I'm not aware of any recent BMW engines that don't use a timing chain - they seem to have standardised like Toyota in this respect.

Brilliant - welcome, you are going to fit right in here with that sort of approach to life... Some people are born impulsive, and others have impulsiveness thrust upon them by Z4-Forum :D

Did you get some pics - or did you realise in daylight you bought an MX-5 by mistake ? :P
