Hello!

I am looking at moving on from my S2000 to a 2013 2.0 E89 MSport. I know that this is something i will regret in some respects, but i have had the S2000 since 2013, and I just need to force myself to move on. Its amazing, i love it - but its for B roads, with its raw power and handling. If i had a garage, I would be keeping it as they are constantly going up in value, even though it has done 91k. The Z4 is more refined, grown up, and has more toys and a great driving position, more of a touring car.

I have been given a good deal on the Z4, its a 2013 with alot of features including iDrive, Msport, Design interior with the orange stripes.etc. But, it has the N20 engine. How bad are these honestly? I have read alot of horror stories about the timing chain and its guide. I tried to get BMW to agree to change it for the updated part based on the US lawsuits.etc, but they wouldn't entertain the idea. It was registered June 2013, so i've seen some sites that say late 2013s are ok?

Is it really a problem? I am now really considering either taking out the BMW warranty to cover myself (Or warranty direct??!) or just look at a different car. I don't know if BMWs are as reliable as they used to be, or maybe its just a case of looking after it and service it as required. But of course, i have come from a Honda where literally nothing has gone wrong! So just how reliable are these?

Welcome to the forum. :) No doubt a very smart Bear will be along shortly to advise on the engine. In the mean time pics are much liked here.

Hi and welcome OP.

I had a "play" in my Coupe with an S2000 a while ago and was impressed at how quick it was! We exchanged a thumb-up at the next set of lights, which was great.

If I wanted a Z4 that was quicker than an S2000 I'd be looking for an Alpina, Z4M, or 35i/35is.

240bhp on an NA engine, light chassis.... its perfect, especially in VTEC ;)

I don't necessarily want faster, just more refined. The Z4 I tested felt faster anyway, just due to the torque, even though I know it isn't. I'll get it remapped to 280bhp, once I'm happy with the chain guide.etc

Have a drive up to Grimsby and have a chat with Simon Thorpe

He will answer all you BMW questions from his experience and repaires are at a reasonable cost if you can't do the work yourself.
