Hello From Indy

Good day,
I purchased a 2006 Z4M. Red exterior, black leather, 6 speed manual. Absolutely love it. Previous own attached RPI exhausts. To say it's loud is an understatement. I'm hearing impaired and the drone at 2500 -3500 rpm is uncomfortable. Seeking recommendations to quiet this beast. My wife would prefer as quiet as we can make it.
Thank you.

Thank you,
Being a newbie Z4M owner, and a X3 owner, i would think BMW was as focused on the original exhaust as the rest of the car. I've also read some posts in favor of Stromung exhausts. And they still may be too loud for my wife's ears.
grateful for your wisdom.

I’ve just sold my Imola Z4M like yours and it had a standard exhaust with a GruppeM Carbon air box and in my opinion it was perfect. The M already has a pretty decent soundtrack as standard but with the GruppeM the sound is much much better and not annoying at all.

Welcome to the forum Jimmy.

From what I have read the RPI exhausts are considerably louder than OE, so your best option may be to look for some OE ones. But some people like the RPIs so you ought to be able to get some money back selling them.

My car came fitted with Powerflow back boxes that are a bit louder than OE which suits me fine. I only get any drone on load below 2,000rpm so I just keep it revving above that!

Thank you Mr Tidy,
Any recommendations for an I phone holder?
Jimmy in Indy, a drinking town with a racing problem.

A crowd favorite for phone holders seems to be the "pro clip/Brodit" one. It mounts where the dash trims meet. I believe it's around $40. With this one though, you do not get charging. Another one I've seen mentioned numerous times is one of those magnetic ball mounts. There are several brands that make them. I went for this one but I found that the weight of my phone causes it to slowly droop more and more as the drive goes on. I'm unsure if this is a problem others have had at all. I will say I've also had bad luck with a vent clip design. The one I chose eventually snapped one of the horizontal bars of the vent so I learned that lesson the hard way.

TLDR: I've most recently gone with the Mighty Mount CD slot holder. The particular model I chose is MagSafe and also charges. It's typically $55 but I picked it up on sale for $45 so if you keep an eye out, you can save a few bucks.

This man is very grateful for this forum. I found a pair of original mufflers for my Z4M and switched out the RPI's. Took the little red roadster out on the Indiana back roads and noticed that I drive differently with the stock mufflers, that is, I shift at higher rpms than I did with the RPI's. I shifted at lower rpms to keep the noise down. Well, the change is most welcome because I find my shifting is a lot smoother (last time I drove a car with a manual was a1966 Porsche 912, that"s a lot of years).
So this is a BIG THANK YOU to this forum. And, I'll post pix of the RPI's shortly - they are for sale and they look new.

Glad you found a solution Jimmy.

From what I've read those RPI boxes don't suit everyone!

If I were single and a lot younger… The RPI’s are really cool, especially on acceleration. Comments around forums consistent with “love em or leave em,” so to speak. These appear like new. Easy to swap out or attach.

New question: How do I find the radio ID of a 2006 Z4M? Trying to hook up to Siriusxm and Sirius cannot find it with my VIN. There is a sirius magnetic antenna in the trunk and when I go to the radio mode: Sirius, all I get is a message to call ^888 539 SIRI. Sirius needs the radio ID and I'm thinking this radio may not be compatible with Siriusxm. Any thoughts from this wisdom circle?

Found the radio ID but Siriusxm would not connect. I believe this is the original radio/CD player. Has anyone been able to connect to Sirius from a Z4?
