Hello All,

At this moment I have a 2006 MINI Cooper S that is heavily modified. Basically just a track toy. My wife, after several years, has talked me into selling it and buying a different car. The only thing she wants the new car to have is an automatic transmission.

One of the cars I am considering is the Z4. I haven't decided which one... I know it will be pre-loved... a 2007 or 2008. Colors are really not too much of an issue. Options I haven't really looked at yet.

One of the things I wish I had done when I built the MINI was to join on of the boards and talked to people about the car. That way I would have know what options I would want and would have known what to expect.

I am looking at getting either the SLK, a Z4 (prefer the Coupe) or a TT. I know the next car I get will be a convertible (unless it is the M Coupe...). I will be looking at buying something in about 6 months.

Any suggestions I can get would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

Actually the SLK55 is one of the car I am looking at. A Pre-Owned 2007 is around the upper $30,000 range. About the same as a low mileage Z4 M-Coupe...

I am on several boards right now trying to get as much input into my next car. I am a little sad to see the MINI go I must admit. I bought it new in 2006 and have really put a lot into it. Right now it has 238hp at the wheels and is crazy fast. Really it is the perfect track toy... Hopefully I will be able to find something I will love just as much...

I think the Z4M is the better drivers car and slightly better gas mileage but that SLK is a monster and of course has the benefit of the tin top.

Any car has its pros and cons. Compared with the AMG and M, I wouldn't bother with the TT unless it was the RS...in GA you don't really need 4WD so I would stick with the RWD cars personally for the fun factor.

If luggage space with the roof down is importnat, I'm afraid the AMG is only good for a couple of toothbrushes.

MINI Demon, welcome to the forum....
Just an FYI if auto is a must then the "M" models are out as auto was never an options on them. 6 speed stick only.

My wife has a 2008 x6 that we use for trips. This will just be a daily driver for me and my wife can use it when the x is in the shop. She drove the MINI the other day and hated it. It has been 6 months since she drove it and I guess she forgot what it was like. With sway bars, coil overs and a shift kit on the 6 speed trans... It's not the most comfortable car in the world...

My price range for the new (new to me) car is around $40k.

good point

Welcome.

The Merc has a smaller boot - practically non existant when the roof is down - but really does shift. But i find it a better cruiser then the Z4.

Here in the UK the SLK cost a pretty penny more then the Z4 (well it did when i was looking!)

I have been looking at both the SLK and the z4. It is just hard to seriously consider the SLK when I have been a BMW guy for so long. I just wish the M had an automatic trans...

Welcome to the forum. Use to be part of Atlanta MINI's a while ago when I had my S, but the bug for more HP struck :D
