Hello & first question

Hi all! My first post on here, although I've been reading the site for a while. Here goes with my first daft question...

My car's an 03 3.0Ltr with 49k on the clock with a full BMW service history. It's now 300 miles overdue an oil service, which I can't get done at the local BMW garage for almost two weeks. They've quoted £200ish.

The problem is that I need to put another 240 miles on it this weekend. Should I worry about running it this far past it's service interval? Is £200 the right kind of price? Or should I go to an independant? I've just moved to Chatham so I don't know any local garages.

If you don't have a warranty you are worried about then use a local Indy - I use H&C Motors in Maidstone, very good, they'll give you a quote on the phone that is probably a lot less than £200

i went overdue an inspection 1 by 750 miles and no bad things happened.

also, my local indy charges £119 for an oil service.

the cars nearly 10 years old so don't worry about paying dealer prices when indy service will usually be better and cheaper.

BMW allow 1,000 miles over before warranty is compromised.

£200 sounds a bit steep though, phone around your next nearest dealers and get some other quotes, and also try any BMW Indi's near by.

strangely enough i lived and am fine, as is the car :lol: i can imagine some anal z4 forum members tearing their hair out at this

Have you got a national tyres near you? Charged me £42 for oil change and filter on my cooper S, was five litres of Castrol edge BMW wanted £130!! Can't imagine the Z will cost much more than my mini did

Wouldn't worry about 240 miles. An indy will be able to service your car (oil service) for between £100-£150

Welcome, BMW might also let you supply your own oil, which you can buy online much cheaper than their quoted price - was something like £50 for 8l from Euro Car Parts and BMW knocked over £100 off for my last (Inspection 1) service.

Hi, I'm only in Rochester so I'll keep a look out for you.

It's a bit further away, but I had an oil service carried out last year by a BMW specialist in Bexleyheath that came recommended by several people. I had the brake fluid changed at the same time and it came to £175 which I didn't think was too bad.

Just serviced mine myself. Castrol Edge from Costco , oil filter from BMW dealer, an hour to do the oil AND drive belts. The oil filter is a cartridge type and so easy to get at ( from the top) and changeover.The drain plug is also easy to get at once you're taken off the small plastic cover under the engine.Essantially, that's all the oil service is, change the oil and check the other levels.
