You have to get the 3.0l I mean your 23? im feeling old right now at 25 lool, while the lovely lucy is just 21, my opinion for what its worth is dont get the 2.2l cos its rubbish well unless you like being beaten at the lights by mondeo man, go for the 2.5l if you really have to have a z4 right now but otherwise wait and get the 3.0l at a 2.5l price then pay the rest in insurance :P

Actually I got my renewal yesterday, a very resonable £857 from admiral for a 10 month policy with 4yr no claims, but the excess is a little steep at £1000 almost making the insurance worthless unless its a rite off in which case I probably wont care anyway  lool.

My 2.5i Sport is Insurance Group 18. It costs me £17 more per month than my previous E60 (Group 17). My excess is £450. I thought £1k excess is for supercars only (Ferrari, Bentley, etc).

2.2 isnt rubish- I agree as the market has fallen its worth goin for the 3.0 as there isnt muchh in it now but the 2.2 is plenty of fun if ur capable of driving it in the way it was designed to driven!

thanks for the great responses and advice people, from what ive seen already the 2.2ltr seems to be quite a rare engine whilst most cars available are 2.5 or 3.0. i think the 3.0 is out of the question for me due to the short distances and limited petrol vouchers in my pay cheque lol.

i did read somewhere that the early 2.5ltr (before the replaced 2.5 engine) was quite heavy, and this made for slower in-turn cornering than a 2.2 because of its lighter engine? not that im participating in the Monaco grandprix or anything, i was just wondering if this was correct?

Lee the 2.2/2.5/3.0 cars are all based on the same engine block. There is marginal differneces in the wieght of teh cars but that is not down to the engines, instead to the standard equipment listed therein. Additionally, there is minimal difference in MPG too and I am sure you would not notice any in the real world.

So to answer your Q, there is little differnece between the earlier inline 6 cylinder models. The 2.0 4 cylinder cars are indeed lighter which in turn transgresses to the driving experience.

2.5i would be my pick for your needs and apparent budget.

FYI, the newer 6 cylinder cars, the 2.5si and 3.0si are lighter engines but not as quick as the old 3.0i autos to 60. :P :fuelfire:

cheers for clearing that up danny!

so a 2.5SE would be heavier than a standard 2.5? im sure ive read in wikipedia that a 2.5SE is slower 0-60 than a standard 2.5?? would this be down to added additional equipment?

but then again im sure a standard 2.5 can be specced up with extras to that of the SE :? wow now ive confused myself lol

On the insurance front the excess of £1000 is voluntary not compulsary, this dosent mean I dont have to pay if I dont feel like it, its what I agreed to pay when I took the old policy out, anyway long story short priviledge will do me a much better deal so I shall be switching to them anyway.

On the 2.2l I was wrong to say that its rubbish, I think the word I was looking for was slow.

Well I think I cleared that one up nicely.
