Hello everyone.

My name is Bran Nubian

I've been reading some of the posts for the past few days for research purposes, and after seeing how friendly and helpful everyone is, I've decided to join.

I am looking to buy a Z4 over the next couple of weeks, and I would highly appreciate some good suggestions on what's available.

At the moment I am looking at this one: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201410198332382 which looks great and at a great price, with low mileage. And based on my research it has all the main bells and whistles usually on a 2.5. (Except for the multimedia steering well. But oh well, I can't have everything.)

Also, after seeing the gallery you guys have here, it has inspired me to change the Alloys to something a bit better, and I was thinking these alloys from the new Z4: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191359515624 I've seen some of examples here in the forums and it looks the part.
Any tips on the correct type of Alloys, would be great.

Great looking Coupe, good colour, should sell it no problems.

How much do you have to spend on the Z4? there are some excellent cars out there.

If you look at the car I've just bought, (The post regarding the car is still on the Forum) you will see the the quality of some of the cars being sold.

I am a newbie & got some great advice off some of the Forum members prior to purchase.

If it was my money I would be looking to source a car from a Forum member if possible.

My personal view is buy on recommendation, condition, & history if you are not in a rush

Just have a read of some of the comments made by other members when the seller Rob (ZermattV) first posted his car was for sale.

The car I bought from Rob is nothing short of astonishing :thumbsup:
 
Evening Bran , car linked looks a decent enough buy at £5k considering the miles & recent £ spent ?
Spec is actually "Flimper" :D although heated seats are nice to have
Wheels are not 19's though & if changing them you won't benefit from the almost new set of Michelin's although they are RF so maybe a bonus :oops:
Colourwise i am a recent owner of a Sterling grey & up close it is a great colour for the E85 :thumbsup:

Bran, I'm with mr wilks, looks ok at the price - 4 new tyres rad and a new roof motor - all positive if well fitted (if tyres are runflats you may want to change them to non runflats - we all do).

Be aware that the 3.0i version (231 bhp, 2006 and newer 265bhp) will be close regarding running costs and the same tax.

Lots of forumites happy with their 2.5s

Keep your eyes on the for sale section of the forum - (and the number of posts made) then be patient - there are lots out there and this is a good time to be buying.

halifaxbantam, Thanks a lot for the welcome and quick reply, Halifax. I am really gutted to sale my Coupe, but then again I am getting a Z4...exciting times.
I am looking to spend between £5,000 and £6,500 max £7000 but it would have to be excellent. :)
I can't seem to find the thread you mentioned about the car you bought....perhaps is my newbie skills here in the forum. If you could send us a link would be great.
Unfortunately I am in a bit of a rush, since I am selling mine, and when that's gone, I need a vehicle asap to commute to work. Also I can't wait to get my hands on the Z4

mr wilks, Hello and thanks a lot...and yeah I oversaw the fact that I need to get 19" alloys, wouldn't want to waste those new tyres. But then again, I might need to change them for non runflat, as Paul mentioned. ;) ummm decisions, decisions.

paulgs1000, Thanks for confirming that is a good buy for the price. I didn't know that 2.5 and 3.0i are similar in consumption, I am aiming at getting the 2.5 specifically as I thought the power/consumption ratio would be better than the 3.0i
How much more does the 3.0i consume in comparison....any threads that compare the two?

Welcome to the forum Bran. Keep your eyes peeled as it's selling time usually this time of year. Recommend a forum car unless you can find a jewel out there and hold out for one with all the toys (incl steering wheel) as it will turn up. Also recommend looking at the 3.0 if you can for the reasons listed above.

As you are moving to 6 cylinders you will find your fuel consumption a third worse than a comparable 4 cylinder (simple really)

I had a 2 litre (which is an under-rated Zed) a four cylinder and the fuel consumption increase was noticeable when I changed to the 3.0si

With the 2.5 and the 3.0 litre 6 it will be very sensitive to the way it is driven. On a run I achieve 38 mpg when transiting but as soon as I begin to use the performance the mpg plummets to low 20s. Keeping up fair progress you can achieve 25/26mpg but you have to pay for the performance of the 6 cylinder if it's used. The good thing is that when driven gently with early up-changes, good mpg (up to 40mpg) can be achieved but I find it a difficult car to drive like this - too much temptation!

From what I've read on the forum the difference between the 2.5 and 3.0 on the road is minimal and that applies to the mpg figures too (there may only be a couple of mpg in it - if that.

So, the Zed is a car that is very sensitive to the way it is driven but it can be driven fairly economically (with restraint) which is not always the case with cars having this performance and size engine. That being the case you can hold out for a 3.0 litre. The face lift (post2006) 3.0si are not yet falling to your price point - you may be lucky but a well cared for and well spec'd 3.0i is definitely in your price range. There may be some 2.5si face lifts available (check the engine power output as I believe there are two levels). Heated seats and sports seats are well thought of as are cruise control and multifunction steering wheels (buttons on the wheel)

It's not as difficult as it seems - approach just like any other car purchase and with care and some patience you'll fall in love with whatever Zed you buy! Good luck with the search.

inkey$, Thanks for the warm welcome and tips Inkey. I've been looking at the Ads section like a Hawk for a couple of days in case something comes up. I truly hope something does over the next week or two.
I've been looking at some threads here in the forum where they compare the 2.5 and 3.0 and there's really not much of a difference besides the insurance being about £50 more expensive. And the 3.0 seems to have better spec overall and a 6 speed gear box...I like the sound of that.
I am still leaning towards the 2.5 mainly because I found a good priced one with very low mileage. I can always add the toys later. But if I find anything in the forums I will certainly change my mind.

Jonny essex, Hi, and thanks for the feedback, I am thinking on getting the same type with heated seats and then add the goodies later. To me is imperative to get a car that has been really looked after with a low mileage. Much easier to add to a strong base I think.
I will definitely keep an eye out for a 2006 onwards. ;)

paulgs1000, Thanks Paul. And you must have read my mind, as I've mentioned what you told me above. I think it comes down to a price and quality of the purchase for me, between the 2.5 and 3.0 on my price range.
If I could just swap my Coupe for a Z4, I would have gone for the M version..but need to be an adult and save up a little. Hence why I am only using half of the money I'll get once I sell my beloved M Coupe.

I wasn't suggesting you needed to upgrade to 19inch alloys mate , the advertised car you linked claim's to have 19s fitted which they are not :wink:
 
Jonny essex, Completely agree. I guess I am thinking, if I save on a bare-bones but good quality Zed, I can then use the money saved to add on top of a great shell. First time tweaking/adding to a car, Happy Days. Hope my future one Zed, will look half as good as yours in a year or so.

mr wilks, Oops sorry mate, misread that bit obviously. In that case....(Newbie question) are those Ellipsoid alloys 18" then? If so that might be perfect as I would like to get the same alloys as number5 (what an amazing set of wheels)
