Hi everyone,

Been stalking this forum for the last week or so as I've put a deposit down on a tidy looking 2004 3.0 manual Z4. Some work is being done to it so hopefully I can pick it up next week. It's all came about last minute as I wasn't expecting buy till next year but couldn't resist this oppertunity. Already putting together a list of things I want for it due to the already bad influence of this place! 😅

I'll get some pictures up when I actually get the car!
Thanks, Sean

Hello and welcome, Imperator now theres a title one does not see often, you're either into Roman history or a Sci-Fi buff with the undying mercenaries series.

Anyway hope you have lots of fun with the new to you zed

Thanks all, I’ve been told car is booked in for a fresh MOT this week so will hopefully have it for the weekend. On a trip to Germany on the 2nd September but think I want to drive it around a bit before taking it straight out on a 1500 mile euro road trip.

@sars have a bit of a love for ancient history in general. It’s actually a user name I made up for Xbox when I was massively into the Rome Total War PC game and it’s just stuck ever since.

So here it is, finally got to pick it up today. My new to me 2004 e85 Z4 3.0 SE. As far as I know it’s had all the options ticked and it’s running and driving nicely. Paintwork isn’t in bad condition apart from 2 random patches that have been painted with a brush but for £4K I’m not complaining! Can’t wait to get a chance to get out on some good roads and take some better pictures.

Spent the last month scouring this forum for tips, tricks and suggestions for all sorts of things. Top of my list is replacing the missing wind deflector and getting CarPlay fitted by Carphonics. Just going to enjoy it for a bit and get used to it before doing any other changes, apart from changing the gear knob because that does feel a bit light and loose.

Oh and a potential wheel refurb, which I’m assuming might be a pain being Style 108

Your car looks like a great E85 with Xenons, cruise and heated M-Sport seats.

Personally I'd want to lose those horrible "GB" stickers, especially as you have "UK" on the plates anyway. A ZHP gear knob is a huge improvement, although others prefer Stormwerks ones. Removing the CDV often improves the shift quality too and is free if you can do it yourself.

Although 108s do look great they need to be split for a proper refurb which isn't cheap, especially when bolts are likely to snap. I replaced mine while they were still in decent condition!

GB stickers are close to the top of the list of removing. The car had recently done a European rally so was stickered up with some Pink Floyd album covers.

I usually like to keep things OEM so was looking at the ZHP knob but when I saw the V2 knob from Stormwerks that’s tearing me. Plus it’d match the brush aluminium trim, though I’m a sucker for a wood dash so have a few saved on eBay.

I would like to keep the wheels because they’re probably one of my favourite Z4 designs. I’m very torn on a colour change if I get to doing them. I want the lips painted as close to polished as I can but unsure to keep the centres silver or go for a shadow chrome, fun metal or a very pale gold. Don’t fancy black but at the same time don’t want it chavy 😅

We’ll see, I’ve got Bluetooth and a smartTOP module to fit today and then give me a chance to get used to it. I have got a couple of friends urging me to join them on a track day so might have to give that a go. Had to rebel against them already because about 5-6 of them have MX5s and I was horribly jealous on our summer meet ups when I was chasing them down in an X5 and they were enjoying roof down cruising. Did drive a couple and they were fun but not quite comfortable enough for daily driving duties and more importantly for me were missing the straight 6!
