Hello all, recent lurker from the east coast of Scotland, finally decided to say hello.

Have always wanted a Z4, and am now (almost) in a position to realise my dream. I’ve already picked up quite a bit of info from this forum, but i’ve never been much of a car guy so lots to learn.

I’ve been back and forth on what i actually want. really love the look of the E86, but would i miss the convertible option.. have also toyed with perhaps starting with a cheap E85 and building my way up after learning the ropes so to speak. Or play it safe and go for a newer E89..

Have a couple of cars to hopefully have a look at in the next couple of weeks, sometimes lots of choice isn’t a positive!

Welcome…the FB Z4 Owners Scotland is a friendly place to meet and natter too..

Given such a wide range of options you’re task is challenging..

Be prepared to travel once you’ve narrowed down your criteria..there are 100s of Zeds for sale..probably a thousand at the moment ..

Welcome to the forum
Hopefully with help and guidance from the members here,
you'll find a zed suites for you :D

Goodluck with the hunt :driving:

Welcome to the board Rusty. Clearly too much salt and sea spray on the East coast. So firstly. Don't by a local car. (just jesting)

My E85 was certainly a very reliable car, but different variants differ. The 6cylider engines certainly have a good reputation. If you can find a looked after one, then my choice would be an E85.

Hi, as B21 said and before you press the 'Z' button pop along to one of the weekend breakfast meetings on the FB Owners Scotland page. They will be coming out of hibernation and I think the first one is March. It will give you the opportunity to have a look at the cars and find out the +'s and -'s of them. :)

Thanks for the welcome all! I have applied to join that FB group as advised, good advice to maybe attend a meet and see the various iterations.

Obviously I’m not going to plague the board with every potential that I come across, but once I’ve narrowed it down to a couple is there somewhere on the forum where it is acceptable for newbies to post some links to gauge people’s thoughts/opinions?

Thanks again!

Hello Rusty, well you do live in Scotland! Just place up the details of the cars you are considering buying on the forum, usually with the line "opinions please on this car" and the members will no doubt pile in with the benefit of their knowledge.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your search once you know which model you want!

So I have finally concluded my search.. brought this forum beauty 350 miles back to Scotland this morning. Didn’t miss a beat. Such an easy car to fall in love with :P

It feels like I’ve spoken to many people about many cars, and without fail everyone was very kind and freely giving of their time and knowledge. So thanks to all!

A few bits I wish to tinker with… but for the next few weeks I’m just going to drive and enjoy it! :driving:
