Hello all, another new owner!

Hello everyone,

A new Z4 owner here! I picked the car up nearly two months ago now, and an eventful couple of months they have been! Collected the car on a saturday, three days later on the way to catch a ferry to france, some chump pulled out of a side road straight into my new car. I wasn't pleased as you might imagine! New wing, headlight and bumper needed.

So, the insurance company sorted all that out while we're on holiday (and provide a nice 530D while the Z4's being repaired) and we return to find the car as good as new, great. Then I start to hear an odd high pitched rattle/squeal coming from the engine at low revs and under high load. I swear it didn't do this before or on the test drive (good timing eh), but the garage diagnosed the source of the noise as the belt tensioner. A new hydraulic tensioner and belts later, all is well and the cost is less than I managed to haggle off the purchase price anyway.

Then the glovebox door handle falls off! Looking at the mechanism god knows how this thing stayed on in the first place, so I've fabricated a new hinge from various household items and it seems pretty sturdy now.

Anyway, despite all of this, I love the car. That engine is so smooth and makes a cracking noise (I love the little burble on the over-run) and I've always been a fan of the styling. Dropping the roof makes the commute so much more enjoyable too. :D

Talking of the roof, here comes the latest issue! There's a thin plastic component that seems to act as some kind of 'sheild' in the roof mechanism, just around where your head would be when the roof's up. This has cracked and one half fallen off now, so I'm going to just remove the other half at some point as the sharp edge looks like it could do more damage than it not being there at all. Has anyone else had this issue? The part doesn't look crucial, so I'll see if I can just leave it missing for now.

welcome- sounds like you have had a bad start to ownership and glad you are still in love with your z!
Any pics of ur roof problem?

Thanks for the welcome folks.

Yeah, despite the issues I still love the car, if only it was as well built as my Alfa!

It wasn't raining this morning so a roof down blast to work was a perfect start to the day. I haven't got any pictures of the roof issue, but the last piece of the component fell off this morning before I had a chance to remove it. It doesn't look as it does anything too important, so hopeully it's nothing to worry about.

Next job is to get the ipod connected, off to the general discussion area to get some advice!....
