Helene Panel Filter - Sound?

Been having a search around bt cant really find my answer..

ive seen a few people say that the Helene filters are the best ones. In what way?

How do they affect the car? Also (probably a stupid question) but will it affect the sound?

I have a 53 3.0i.

Thanks

I doubt you'll hear any difference when you fit the panel filter, you will get quite a different intake note if you fit an open intake filter such as the GruppeM or Helene CAI's. The principle behind high flow intakes is exactly that, you remove some of the restrictions that OEM filters cause to the airflow. Increased airflow into the engine combined with the extra fuel that the ECU should supply as it registers that increased flow equals more power. Don't be fooled into thinking that more noise equals more power though, some CAI's will loose you some power particularly on cars like the Z4 because you'll loose the ramair effect. The aftermarket intakes fail to seal against the front panel and you loose the compression of the intake air basically.

I have the Helene filter, it makes the car sound like a ferrari and feel about as quick, no quicker than a fighter jet. :D

No really, you would hardly know its in there. Good thing is when it came to service time they knocked £20 of the price as they didn't need to replace the filter. So, thats half of it paid of already. :)

Right, thanks for the reply.
I won't be bothering with the panel then. Just wanted to see if I could change the sound a little. Not interested in performance gains, coming from a Renault Megane, this is a fighter jet!
Im a little bit addicted to the loud pedal at the moment and Im loving the sound, but find Im having to open the window a little to hear it in all its glory but I guess thats just because its new to me :D

I don't really want anything overly loud like a new exhaust because I quite like the almost sophisticated noise as standard.
Would a GruppeM CAI make a big difference?

If you have a 3.0 then mess around with the sound generator. Otherwise you may be able to retrofit one. Do a search....

You've already got one, you just need to take out one of the foams :)

No, do I just genuinely suck at cars or what??

Managed to pull the end off that goes into the cabin. Now I cant get it back in. I presume part of the pubber ring goes into the hole aswell to secure it but its a right pain in the ass to get back in!

Finally!

Realised that I had to put the rubber grommet in position first

Gonna go give it a try now seeing as I can't sleep!

Well...That was loud! Sounded great just doing quick burst of acceleration, but as the revs picked up it maybe got a little bit too loud.

I took out the foam nearest to the cabin. Is that the larger one of the two? Is the other one just as easy to take out?

Helene pannel filters are only made for the preface lift cars ( 03-05)

I have the steptronic and when down shifting to 2nd coming into a turn, I was not always able to do that with the OEM filter, however with the Helene fillter I have always been able to get second when I want it.

I had (have) a Helene then replaced with a GruppeM - the difference is night and day. The GruppeM is worth every penny! The Helene is worth the money too though if you're sticking with a panel filter.
