heel and toe

I've never been able to heel and toe. I've watched the YouTube videos etc, but I can't do it!!! Especially on the M, where the brake and accelerator pedals seem so far apart.

It seems to hurt my foot as well. Perhaps I'm just uncoordinated!!

Maybe it's the method you're using? Perhaps this will help? http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=40649#p571602

Thanks ga41. I'll have to have another go but I think I've tried that before. It's probably my lack of coordination though that's the main problem!

I've tried it a few times. It's the throttle blip part I find tricky. Usually either giving it too many revs or not enough.

Think what's needed is a solid amount of time practising somewhere open as I end up just getting a bit vexed with myself!

machine monkey, not sure if its the cdv as mine is deleted too, and yes loads better, i think its more the electronic throttle that sometimes you just catch it wrong, to tell the truth i cant honestly remember if the last kangaroo i had was before or after i deleted the cdv, i know i didnt have sport button pressed though.

original guvnor, inkey$, mad4slalom, it took me a while to get the hang of it too. About a year into my ownership and i still couldn't nail it down properly, of course it was the first car i ever tried it on though. Don't be dismayed, just keep practising and then you'll find that it becomes instinctive, like your feet working on their own accord. :)

Will persevere. One day I know I'll nail it instinctively.

Although it's called "heel and toe", it can be done with any part of the foot. On many cars, you are really using the left hand side of the foot on the brake pedal and the right hand side of the foot on the accelerator. It really depends on the relative position of the pedals - I can't think of many cars where I've actually used my heel and my toe.

I always think of heel and toe as being a bit like double-declutching; I don't do it all the time, but it's nice to know that I can when I want/need to.

Absolutly agree, it takes ages to get it right.... I have been heal and toeing ever since my renault 5GT turbo days because it seemed to be largely made of cheese and I didn't want to break it. It seems second nature to me now and end up doing it in every car I drive although it doesn't sound quite as awesome in my 330d...

Genuine AC Schnitzer pedal sets are not £27. They are roughly 10X that price. Just a heads up...

I think we're all aware of that, they're off ebay! Having closely examined them, I can't see how any others could be 10X (or even 2X) better though

When I bought a set back in 2004 they cost £15 and they're still going strong. The aluminium is lovely and smooth and the rubber inserts are still in excellent shape.

Instead of blipping the throttle, try to just put enough pressure on the accelerator pedal so that you get rev-matching when you let out the clutch. You don't need much pressure on the accelerator to make this work. If you want to continue downshifting into other gears, you then lift off the accelerator and repeat for each downshift, or if you then want to pull away smartly you roll your foot off the brake whilst flooring the accelerator. I find this works better for me with a drive-by-wire system.

thanks for that sdvice exdos , your posts continue to provide the most informative and helpful advice on the forum. dont know if the ones on my 3m were gen ac or not as they were on the car when i purchased it, but as long as they;re made of ally and rubber, like you I dont think they can differ a great deal.

They're awkward to fit, so if you get some let me know, and I'll give you a few tips because they come without instructions. I found it so much easier fitting these today than I did the last time.
I have bought the replica AC ones… some tips on fitting them would be much appreciated :)
