Heavy parts at the z4

call me crazy but I always look for a way to make my car peform bether. Are there any parts of the car that are obvious heavy? example if the battery in the back has a weight of 20 kg and it could be swapped out for a battery that weighs only 5 kg.

15 kg is not mutch, but 15kg here and 15kg there,) alle makes gains ,)

1480 kg ( ink driver and gas ) / 204 hk = 7,25490 Hk/kg
1400 kg ( -----"--------- ) / 204 hk = 6,86274 Hk/kg

80 kg cut or you have to Tune Your car to 215,027 Hk to gett Equal effekt

The weight of your car is 1505kg and you'll need to go some to get it down to a weight where the driver and fuel take it to a maximum of 1480kg. A full tank at 53 litres at around 0.711kg per litre is 37.683kg. A standard test driver weighs 68kg so 'assuming' you weigh no more than that so that 105.683kg so you need to get the weight down to 1374.317 which then needs to be adjusted for any difference in body weight so your talking removing 130.683kg. That's mad!

To get that kind of weight loss you'll need to rip out the aircon, a seat and some other parts of trim that's not required.

Ideally keep the car as it is then change it at a later date for a faster car.

Could dump all the hard top mechanism and have someone design and and manufacture a fabric hood.
Start a trend, especially in later years when the cars will go for a song due to all the roof failures!

Get lightweight alloy wheels&tyres. That's by far the most effective way for weight savings.

Reducing unsprung mass is the best way to improve the contact between tyre and road (aka handling).
And it gets better: it's also rotational mass, so it has an exponential advantage on acceleration/braking compared to weight savings inside the chassis.

So get some volk wheels or OZ ultraleggera's or something like that. Or oldfashioned steelies

On the e85 the seats weigh a tonne.
Lightweight wheels
Tyres
Seats
Battery.
Lightweight exhaust system
Can't think of anything else without impacting comfort lol.

I was thinking about this the other day and will be interested in reducing weight when I buy my next z4

I gett the point ,) i just tune it insted...

my uncle had a z3, he took it to haman i think in Germany and adapted a compressor and etc. .. he told me he took the car from 180 hp i think (2.8 L M version)
two 340 hp ... I did cost him around 100,000 NOK or aproxematly $ 17,000
not worth it btw

If you live in norway and planning to tune a bmw..... you don't go to hamann.......you go to ESS ;) ;)
