Heatshield rattle

Guys, anyone else had a heatshield type metallic rattle when leaving a parking space or similar?

Sounded like something was slightly lose under the car but went away when the car was warm.

wheres the rattle coming from daz??? middle or frontish area???

middle maybe cat heat-shields, front could be the manifold heat shield rattling on the manifold??? the nuts have a tendency to drop out!! i re Tq mine regularly!!

The heat shield over the cats is likely loose. Mine had slipped backwards slightly and rattled like mad when the car was cold. My indy welded mine in place about a year ago, and that solved the rattle. I did have a small exhaust blow immediately adjacent more recently that was due to corrosion so I wouldn't be surprised if the two were related. If you get an emissions warning and a soft blowing sound in the future don't be too surprised. Again mine was welded fairly easily.

Cheers guys it sounded like the middle but not certain first time its happened. Exhaust still sounds normal.

If it's the middle, it's likely the cat shield

I had the whole catalytic converter replaced under warranty a few months ago for the exact same issue. They said that the heatshield was part of the cat and the whole unit had to be replaced. Farcical but if that's how they want to fix it then it's their money. At least it was in my case. £1400 plus the VAT I think was the part price.
