heatshield has fallen down.

The heatshield that goes over the centre section of the exhaust tried to make a break for freedom last night, after I had no option but to drive through a flooded road :thumbsdown:

Is this a cheap fix or will BMW have my pants down? Or do you think I could bodge it back in position for the time being? It just looks bent rather than destroyed. It looks like 2 separate bits to me, but i need to jack the car up to get a proper look.
 
Impossible to say how easy to fix until you see what you broke off. If bent you can reshape it. If it tore a corner off then perhaps a larger flat washer under the retaining bolts, etc.

Up on a ramp or axle stands...

Must have hit water fast to tear the heat shield off. :poke:
 
was a NSL road, doing about 35-40mph. couldn't see the ''puddle'' until about 5 metres before it :(

will investigate when it decides to stop raining and hopefully it's just bent. cheers.
 
It's pretty cheap to replace.
I bought a new one when replacing the exhaust. 65 from Jamie.

I'm assuming it's the shield that covers the gear linkage/prop shaft.
 
This guy has various Z4 heatsheilds listed not sure if any of them are the one you might need.

just took a pic, unfortunately my driveway is on an incline so need to go round my dads so i can have a look on a level surface.

looks like it's the first heatshield and the middle one.

I called them about their advertised shields a while ago...(before i bought mine from BMW).
Quite a few of the holes for the screws are broken which makes buying a replacement one from them a bit pointless....its going to fall off again.

For the centre shield, Jamie quoted me 72 inc del.....not bad for a tenner more than the one advertised on ebay.
