Heater very slow to heat up?

Driving to work today I noticed that the heater appeared to be taking very long to chuck out warm air. It wasn't particularly cold out, about 9c, but I think it still took ages... Longer than 10 minutes?!

I don't know how long it normally takes, never paid attention. Heated seats were very warm by he time the heaters were even getting remotely warm.

I turned the heater fully off and on again a few times, don't know if that made any difference.

Car is Under warranty from BMW so if it needs work it should be fine.

I'll see this evening If it is slow - if someone else could advise in this that would be great.

I would take it back and let them review it for you.
I have observed a similar issue wherby the heater does not produce any hot air until you get back 23 on the dial...
 
Could be a sticking thermostat, does the temp gauge take ages to get to the middle? Does the gauge move towards cold if your doing a constant speed?
 
Yep probably the thermostat, one of its jobs is to get the engine to operating temperature as quickly as possible (your water temp gauge should hit the middle within 5 minutes unless idling) so if you're still not feeling heat after 10 minutes that's the first thing I would replace. Or if you're lucky maybe even air in the cooling system (try bleeding it.)
 
Mine gets warm within 5 mins. Quickest warmup I've ever experienced, and good speed on the blowers, presume they're uprated as it's a roadster.

I live about a mile and a half from the a1. By the time I reach the a1 and just get up to 70 My temp gauge is pretty much in the middle, and stays there for the rest of the journey.
 
The N52 has a part electornic thermostat. Had mine changed under warranty as it was not getting warm at all unless it was stationary, which is how the dealer tested it and tried to tell me they couldn't find the fault. :headbang:
 
I'll bring it in to them next week. Something is definitely wrong, the temp gauge goes to the middle and stays there which is good, but the only way I could seem to get the heat blowing was bizarrely to turn the air con on, then put it off and the heater was working!

Odd!

My drive to work is very stop starty...barely in to 3rd and only about 2 miles.

I'll do a motorway run to see if the temp gets to normal in time to rule that out.

As you say the temp gauge is normal, then I guess you may have the same issue as me.
Problem one, when it's working and hot one click cooler and it blows stone cold.
Problem two, the other morning I had no heat at all, temp was normal been driving 10 mins, then I fiddled with the heater knob and it started to blow hot.
I suspect a faulty heater knob, as it operates an electronic valve that controls the flow of water into the cabin and it's not sending the correct signals to the control module

If it happens again I will try another heater control panel.
