Heated Steering Wheel

Is there anyone or any way of retrofitting a heated steering wheel to an E86?
I am planning on getting a wheel from Royal's in the coming months, it would be awesome if it could be heated, possible wired into the button for the drivers' heated seat?

If I remember correctly even if you originally have a heated wheel getting a Royals re trim removes this function but happy to stand corrected if this is not the case

Heater element kits are available for DIY or maybe Royals can fit them ? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Winter-Heated-Steering-Wheel-Cover-Kits-Heat-Pads-Heater-Pad-For-Universal-/304144554182?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0

That would need some engineering with regard to the slip ring.

Did some research: The E83 X3, that shares many electronic parts with the E85/6, has a heated steering wheel. According to WDS it uses the pins 1 and 2 of the slip ring for the heater, with 0.75 mm2 wiring, which are only 0.35 mm2 on the Z4. That would be easily modified and you’d need to route new cabling anyhow. The slip ring itself is, according to realoem, the same part number in both cars so the current won’t toast it.

yup. that happened to me. I had a factory fit heated steering wheel in my E89, which stopped working after a re-trim from Royals (I expect any re-trimmer would have done the same).

Necessity is the mother of invention
