Heated seats

Right then, my question tonight to those that might be in the know is........

My car is an E85 with standard but electric seats.

Do the seats come from the factory with the heater elements fitted in them but just not the wiring loom and switches when they are not selected as an extra ?

If they did then I was thinking of getting the loom and switches and seeing if I could get them working.

If they don't the that would be a big fat no no haha.
 
I believe Fishy Dave fitted heating elements to his non heated seats then source a wiring loom from an X3 then a switch console and wired it all together. However, if yours is a pre-facelift then it would probably be easier to buy heated seats and swap them in as the wiring loom should be already in place (check first though :wink: )

Yeah mine is the pre facelift but finding some nice red leather seats in electric with heater elements is not too easy :(

Its still an option to buy some heated seats, swap the heated elements into your seats (or your leather covers on to them) and then sell on the remaining seats as non heated

Are heated elements integrated into the leather/foam cushion?

I'm in the same predicament as the O.P. I'm after some red, heated, M seats. Don't get me started, I know how rare these are :cry:
My question is, I've got electric & heated standard seats at present. If I can source a set of M red leather seats, and lets say for examples sake they are non heated and manually operated. How straightforward is the integration of the two? I assume the base is straightforward, so manually operated can become electric. But the heating element?? Any insight and experience on the matter appreciated (gathering all the info I can before I start the project) :)

I believe the heated elements are separate to the leather covers, however I have never had a zed seat apart myself to 100% confirm this, so lets say I'm 98% sure! :wink: .

But (there's always a but!) the heated elements in the m sport seats are different to the one in the standard seats. Can you shove some standard elements in m sport seats? I really don't know. Electronics wise obviously we know they work, loads of members (including me) have put heated m sport seats in cars that originally had standard (se) seats, both pre and post facelift. But do the elements fit properly?

Disassembling the seats is a bit of a faff though. Will take you a day to strip and reassemble both bases and backs if you haven't done it before.

se seat elements almost moulded in to the foam , I've tried to peel them off without any luck .

Maybe difference in the heating element in standard to M seats then? Will have to do some more digging.
