Heated seats retrofit coding?

I've recently purchased some pre-facelift manual M Sports heated seats. I've got a 2004 pre-facelift 2.5i with manual leather seats. I'm hoping I can just swap out the seats and replace the button panel in the centre console and for the heat switch to work. After reading another post, it's got me thinking as to whether this will need coding at the dealers?

Anybody else done this and can you advise as to whether it's just plug and play?

Should be plug an play ,
If there is something you want coding put a request on here an where you are , an more than likely someone will help you out for a few drinks tokens or less,

I am just doing the same and have swapped leather heated bases and backs with none heated but electrically adjusted bases. This is now done and installed but an waiting for the heated seat controllers to arrive. I will report when this is installed .

Yep, I'm installing mine at the weekend. It's been a ridiculously long project from buying the old seats and then refurbishing them, dying them etc etc etc so I'm just hoping everything works when I install them.

Don't need coding. Just make sure you got all extra wires that goes from seats to switches. They around £40 at bmw.

You can't purchase the wiring from BMW any longer. I got mine and some spare from the States - just waiting for the customs bill to come through before offering them for sale on here.

But I won't need that will I? As mentioned the car and seats are 2004 and therefore pre facelift so I thought all of the wiring looms were already there. From what I've read it's only on post facelift that you have to get a different wiring loom.

Facelift has nothing to do with it I'm afraid - there is a date fairly early in production where all cars had all wiring but then BMW stopped this once they figured out some 'efficiencies'!

Easiest way to check is to look for the relevant wires at either the seat end or switch panel end.

At the seat you should have wires in pins 23, 24 & 25.

At the switch panel the wires would be in 1, 7, 13, 20 & 21.

Thanks for this. All wires are present :) Now I'll just have to wait and see if they work when I install them at the weekend :|

Looking forward to seeing the results of the dyeing  I keep thinking about doing.mine, but worried they will turn out rubbish

I purchased the M seats from a salvaged car for £200. They were a bit of a state and worn. After a lot of care they look pretty good now. Once they're installed I'll take some pics and let you know what the best way of doing them is. After a lot of messing about I think I've become a bit of a pro now!!

I have ready on other forums (X3) that others get similar issues, 2 areas to look for is a faulty center console switch unit or damages wires between the seat and the back.

Fitted my controller and all works with no coding required.

My car is a 2003 3.0 so had the loom already installed
