Heated seat switch

I want to get heated seats retrofitted to my 2003 roadster. My local indy will fit them for £300 (made by the same company that supply BMW with the factory fitted ones). The problem I have is that they come with their own switches and have two heat settings (ie 3 switch positions, OFF, 1 and 2). I would prefer to buy the normal BMW switches and have them wired into those.

I understand that the factory fit heated seats have three heat settings and an OFF setting. Is it possible to buy the BMW switches for the centre console in front of the gear lever and wire the new heated seats into them? If so, what would happen when you turn them on since there are less heat settings on the retrofit seats than the factory fit?

If it is not possible to use the BMW switches, I will probably have the switches fitted to the removeable panel under the aircon controls. Is there any problem with that as long as I leave enough wire to be able to remove the panel if necessary? I know you can't see it easily but it would be very easy to use by feel.

Thank you.

Dave

The original switches also have 3 LED indicators and you can hold the button down to turn the seats off. With all that I would imagine the connections are quite complicated so the chances of it being compatible with a third-party system are minimal. No experience just guessing.

Heated seats - what’s all that about! Like electric blankets and hot water bottles, which I believe are very beneficial to the elderly and infirm.......

I would go for the OEM ones which wire into the switches just fine. I know of someone who still has the OEM switch unit as well ...

Do you mean that you can buy the original heated seat parts - the same as would be factory fitted?

you can indeed buy all the parts, someone on here retrofitted recently. you could also source replacement seats from ebay or similar with heated pads already fitted.
