Heated Seat Retrofit (post 2003 car)

Having picked up heated seats a couple of weeks ago I have now also managed to find the console panel with heated seat buttons (coupe ones without the roof buttons seem pretty rare) :) But this is where I have got stuck. I have found plenty of posts about putting heated seats in a 2003 car which already has the wiring, but not for cars without the wiring in place. I did find this one guide, but as you can see the very helpful photos have been replaced with what appear to be eBay photos of some boots :lol:

The thread mentions a retrofit kit, but this is what the given part number brings up in realoem:

Nothing here looks like a wiring loom to me :(

So can anybody help me figure out what loom I need to buy?
 
I also just called BMW to see if they could help, apparently the above loom is discontinued and there's no sign of a replacement. This could be tricky! anybody got a wiring diagram!?
 
A little while ago I remember speaking to either FAB Direct or Quarry Motors about some heated seats (i can't remember which) and they mentioned that they had the wiring loom if I needed this too, might be worth giving both a call to find out.

I'm pretty sure you could throw together all the things you need to make this work... you might just be looking around in scrappers for heated seat facelift models to get the right bits.

Which I'd do any way. Some parts from BMW make sense but looms/switches and stuff are probably best from the specific car you want to 'clone' wrt features. So a heated seat facelift car is the place to look I suppose!

So the new console arrived today, I plugged it in and as expected the heated seats lights just flash when the button is pressed. No wiring. Here's the back of the console plug:

And from the wiring diagram posted above, here is the drivers side heating wiring:

So I assume the bit at the top is the plug I have added a photo of above. Do the '1' and '20' refer to pins 1 and 20 in the back of the plug? Because it appears pins 1 and 20 are already populated in the photo.

Also, I can't figure out which part of the diagram is the yellow plug that connects to the seat. Does anybody know which pins the above 2 would connect to based on the diagram?

It looks pretty simple if all I need to do is run 2 wires from the console to each seat, I just need to figure out which ones! :!:
 
Any yellow connectors are related to the airbag system, treat the wiring gently and be sure they are not kinked, some are actually fibre optics. The battery must be disconnected for at least 30 minutes before disconnecting these and remain disconnected until connectors are reconnected or you will get airbag errors.

Yes, it's hard to grasp the WDS symbology at first. The main thing is no diagram has complete information, you need to jump around to get everything. Yes, the 1 and 20 are pin numbers, but the large holes are counted as pins, so there are 23 pins total. Additionally, the GN/GE and WS/BL are wire colour abbreviations in German: Greun/Geld is Green/Yellow and Weis/Blau is White/Blue. There's a translation chart somewhere on the bmw-panet site.

The A169 is the actual switch block. Find it's listing in components to see all the connectors involved. The X1869 is the connector number, find it's listing in components->connectors to see a pin numbering diagram. Note it is oriented for the front of the connector, so mirror it for viewing from the back. (I think... double check orientation with wire colours)

Looking at the A169 diagram, you have 5A power, tyre monitor, and K-BUS wires. Of course you do not have wires to the A96 roof controller. Besides the 4 wires to the seats, you also need a 25A feed from fuse 16.

I hope the WDS is starting to make more sense now. It has a definite learning curve, but it's an important resource.

Edit: FWIW, the little X521 4 pin connector contains ground, illumination, and DSC conductors.

Just been reading through the threads and Im still a bit confused...

I have a 2004 E85 with heated manual seats.
I've just been offered some heated powered seats at a good price.

Today I unplugged the yellow connector under the passenger-sde seat and took some photos.
There seem to be 25 identified pins in the plug.
(Strange because in WDS X1869 seems to show only 23 pins - am I looking at the wrong plug in the WDS?)
On my plug:
Empty pins: 1,2,3,6,8,11,12,15,16, 20,21,22.
Pins with metal: 5,7,9,10,13,14,17,18,19,23,24,25.

Is my plug wired for the power seats?

I know this thread is a bit old, but perhaps some of you out there might be able to help me.
