Heated seat mats.

I have rx8 seats fitted in my car. The heated part is not compatible I’m lead to believe. So my plan is to remove the heat pads from standard seats and stick them in the Mazda ones. Would love to do it on a small budget. So if anyone has wrecked seats they need rid of that are heated, let me know what you would take for them.
Be gentle.

How small a budget? I have a set of standard heated seats sitting in Aberdeenshire that I don't have a use for. They are in good nick so assuming you pull the heating elements for your own use you could probably sell them on as non-heated seats.

I would prefer not to dismantle perfectly good seats. It seems a shame to waste them.

Try B-M shop they where selling plug in heated seat mats for £7 don’t know how good they are I have heated seats in my Z but I noticed these the other day there on sale from the RAC give them a go nothing too loose hope that helps

Whilst they are perfectly good, they are also pretty undesirable on the second hand market so I don't think you'd be doing anyone a disservice!

You think about different vehicle models? I’m sure the e46 ones would work and might be a option (much more of them made so should make it a more cost effective alternative).

I’ve had a look in all the usual places like eBay and Facebook, there is nothing at the moment in my area either e85, e86 or e46.

When you say not compatible, would that just be the connector? If that's the case then surely cutting the Mazda one off and repining a BMW could be an option? Or is it the mat itself?

In theory that might be the case. This is where it gets a bit sketchy for me. I’ve been unable to find the info I need. With the z4 you have three settings which I think is controlled by the switch. On the Mazda seats I think it’s controlled by a module under the seat. I’m not sure if a heat mat is just a universal item that heats depend on the input.

So not being a sparky my assumption would be that if you cut the wires after the module (again assuming you can do that?) Then the heat mat is just a mat........
If the Z4 3 stages of heating is then controlled by the switch, surely if you can get the mat wired to the Z4 existing wiring then it in theory should work??

Hopefully someone with more electrical skills than myself can confirm or shot me down in flames!! :fuelfire: lol

How much would you want for them?

I’ve no problem soldering plugs on or connecting things it’s just when your dealing with electrics, trial and error are sometimes a one shot only. Connect then wrong and that’s it humped. I’d love someone to confirm my thoughts before I do it.
