heated rear screen

IS the heated rear screen just a little bit s**t or do you think mine is broken.

it just doesnt seem to do anything in my car so im guessing its broken. today was a typical autum morning, a bit cold lots of drew, cars all misted up. the front cleared great with the mental fan button (my last car had one of those ford heated window jobbies it was great) but the back didnt do anything. i know my journey to work is 15 mins and thats pushing it sometime to work but there wasnt even the usual signs of it working at the edges etc.

is there any way to check/replace. usually when one of these is goosed that seems to be it.

Hi,

start by checking the fuse, if that's OK check there is voltage on one side and good earth on the other side at the terminals at the screen, if there is then it's the heater element ! If no voltage it could be the switch too, also visually check the lines(element) on the screen for damage !

There is a repair kit for heated screens, basically you paint on a conductive paint to the screen where parts of the element is missing ..tricky job !!

Apply your tongue across two of the wires that cross the screen ... might work?

:D just my tounge?

i did wonder about the fuse but to be fair i only remember when im on the way to work and i have no idea where the fuses are, ill need to consult the book. I still have those shutter things on the lights set for the continet! :headbang: :headbang:

ive tried that pait stuff in the past and found it to be difficult and a bit crap. hopefully its just a little loose wire.

Several wires on mine dint work last year and the dealer replaced mine under warranty (not sure if you have one though) - interestingly they said they couldnt replace the screen so replaced the entire hood!!

According to the TIS the glass is permenantly bonded into the fabric so indeed a new hood it would be :(
Or the hood down....

Fuses are behind the glovebox - there are two 'tabs' at the top you need to push in to get it to drop all the way down
