Heat shield fell off!

A couple of weeks ago I put a full set of disks and pads on the car and while I was looking around under the car I spotted something that was not attached.

A heat shield. By the looks of it should have been attached to one of the underbody covers by rivets but the rivets were gone and this was just rattling about. Funnily enough it didnt seem to make any noise inside the car.
So the rain went off today and I jacked the car up and with the help of some bolts, washers and nylock nuts its back in place.

Not sure how much it is needed but its back on now.
On another note, I seem to have found a jacking point under the car at the rear of the engine for anybody thats ever wondered if there is one.

Good spot. The aluminium won't last long in contact with a steel bolt though due to galvanic corrosion. You ideally need to electrically isolate the two with a fibre washer or something.

I assume it was aluminium rivets originally then. They lasted somewhere between 0 and 7 years.
I will have to swap them out for something else if thats going to happen, even if it will be in years to come.
I wonder if it would be better with plastic reg plate nuts and bolts?

This happened to my 2010 model after 5 years. I had an AUC warranty on the car so got the dealer to reattach it. They re-rivetted it back on.

Yeh nylon nuts and bolts would be ideal
How hot could it get. Nylon may not be ideal. Maybe some small gasket type washers. Just a thought.

There is a downpipe above it but I wouldnt think it would get hot enough to melt plastic bolts.
Seeing as I already have nuts and bolts in it I will look for fibre washers to seperate the washers on the other side from the heat shield.

I bolted mine back on with stainless nuts and bolts.
Seems fairly common to fall off.
The plastic under shield probably vibrates a lot and the rivets break off.
