Yes that meter is a so called dampened meter. Not so useful if you ask me as it gives no actual readings. But reassuring for most drivers.
But it gives no good information for fault tracing/diagnose.
OBD2 reader coolant temp should be accurate I think.

Yep, I've used the torque app and noticed rising/falling coolant temps with a static dashboard gauge, it's made that way to quell mass hysteria :w00t:

I wrapped the tubular headers on my Triumph Stag, which was running a 3.9L Rover V8. It significantly reduced underbonnet temps, and the running temp went down by about 5 degrees due to the resultant reduction in heat soak. I did it because they are prone to overheating, and it did the job.
