Heart op AT LAST...!!!!

Well after 9 yrears of mis-diagnosis and 3 postponements this year it looks very much like the first cardiac ablation op is going ahead this Wednesday, it'll be the 2nd bout of surgery in 6 months after a bowel op in summer, and it can't come soon enough, the atrial fibrillation I get is severe and has a huge impact on day to day life which is getting steadily worse, it's stoped me going to any Z4 meets for e.g., or from having a holiday, and along with bowel problems has prevented a steady work life this year, hence I'm fairly desparate for it. The first op won't cure the problem and I'll need more but at least it's getting underway. It's a bit daunting but ultimately exciting to think that by this time next year I could be cured!! Fibrillation is not life threatening but left untreated causes heart disease and puts you at very high stroke risk, so it needs dealing with.

However on the flip side of this excitement is a knowledge of a least one forum member whose loved one is still fighting so I wish anyone with something themselves, or family and friends with an illness, all the very heartfelt best, I sincerely hope a good outcome for all.

Hey not looking for any sympathy votes here, just sharing an experience which I've asked about on here before diagnosis, so an update to any interested parties as much as anything.

Cheers for reading and good health, keep things in perspective folks. :)

Yes, very best of luck, my Father has atrial fibrillation (thankfully fairly mild/infrequent) and both grandparents passed away in their 50s from Bowel Cancer (no early diagnosis) so will keep a close eye on this thread. I really hope it brings you an improvement, especially to get along to a Z4 meet next year. :driving:

John - Sounds like you have a journey ahead, but understand your sentiment of it being daunting and a level of excitement too. I sincerely hope all goes well and we see you back in the Zed in a few months

It's so easy to take good health for granted - I hope Wednesday's op is the beginning of better health for you, good luck fella

I am sure you will be back to health very soon. Hopefully you will get a good looking nurse with a nice bedside manner :) Take some car magazines in to read afterwards.

All the best John!

Dad had an attack earlier in the year but surgeries these days seem much more common and i've seem to be regularly described as 'routine' by some friends that are pros in the field. Hopefully it sorts you out :)
