Afternoon all,
Well as I've moaned on and on about health stuff too much already I might as well finish 2016 off in the same vein..
As some of you know I had a heart ablation 4wks ago, it went well, surgeon reported a successful ablation, leaving a good path for another in the new year. All was well until that night when my chest went very tight and I struggled to breathe properly. Off to the doc who heard fluid on the right lung and a course of anti-bi's would clear it in few days, it didn't, so after another course they tried steroids as I'd now got pneumonia, chest x-ray, more steroids, nothing working, during this my heart rate is over 100 bpm 24/7 (normal is 55 for me) as it tries to get oxygen round the body. X-ray finally gets looked at and shows a raised diaphram, by last Monday I'm pretty much on my knees gasping for air just walking round the house. Off for a night or two in hospital where a collapsed lung caused by diaphragmatic nerve paralysis is confirmed caused by the ablation. It basically means the phrenic nerve that operates the diaphram is temporarily paralysed leaving and keeping the lung collapsed. This is something that only happens with cryoablation, using cold instead of heat, and is so rare it's a 0.4% chance of it happening, even death is a 5% chance, so it's extremely rare. The surgeon rang me last night, he's only ever had a couple of these which he's spotted and backed off ablation of the nerve he's working on and it's always been fine, he's never had one carry on, and as they monitor for it so closely he can't figure how it's happened. He said he saw a potential for mine to paralyse and backed out of it, with the diaphram returning to normal straight away on the table. So it seems unlucky is the word. Cure for the paralysis is rest and piped oxygen, it can take up to a year to rectify itself. So I'm house bound with an oxygen pump running 24/7 dragging an air line around stuffed up my hooter, comfortable it ain't... :x Hopefully the hospital will give me a prescription for some mobile tanks so I can at least get out for an hour. If it doesn't right itself in time there are a couple of surgical things they might be able to do but until I see the surgeon in January I don't know if any of these will be suitable as there are many limiting factors which have to be eliminated first. So it's gonna be a long old slog...
Well just an update as I said. You guys have been great with your well wishes before and I'm sure it's getting boring reading my woes, so no well wishes, that's not why I'm posting, I know people are very kind. It'll get sorted in time hopefully with no lasting problems, there's nothing sinister going on, we remain optimistic and maybe by late summer next year it'll be much improved. My thoughts remain with those much less fortunate.
Cheers for now, I'll go back to sitting around doing bugger all....bloody hell i'm bored...!!!!
