headunits/soundsystems

Im looking at changing the headunit in my car and running a nice system with components a few amps and some subs, i have the optional extra sound system in my car with the subs behind the seats and 10 speaker system, also the built in sat nav. I have a few questions i need to ask
1. Can i run my sat nav with a aftermarket head unit as the mode button is part of the stereo?
2. What size are the subs behind the seats
3. Is it a hard job to install a complete new system with new amps and all speakers running off my amps?

any pictures of your installs or head units or any guidance at all would be hugely appreciated many thanks

1. It's possible, but incredibly messy. A line out convertor, signal processor would be a better option.

2. 6", but aren't a conventional size so you'll want to make your own front panel.

3. depends on your skill level.

I personally am running a JL hd900/5 5 channel amp, a pair of hertz hsk components a pair of 8w3's in JL's slim box and all controlled with an audison bit10d. My source is my iPhone being connected over wifi to an airport express. (The airport express connects to the bit10d through an optical tosslink cable)

The channels are 1 and 2 for the tweeters, 3 and 4 for the woofers and 5 for the subs. Opted to run active as I wanted custom control over my crossover points.

I specifically opted for a car without the factory nav as I was going to be ditching the oem system altogether. I have retained the stereo and left connected the driver side speaker for bluetooth calls.

I might have 2 x 8" jbl subs in a dual box which fits in the boot of a roadster (under roof shelf) perfectly for sale if you're local and interested.
