headunit

Ok guys whos changed their headunit and what did you change for?. I currently have a 2010 e89 with the basic stereo and to say that it is woeful is an understatement. when the Ipod is connected the volume is so low its ridiculous. I used to have an e85 and it was definitely louder than the e89. Anyway love to hear what solutions you guys have come up with. I am currently waiting for an installer to get back to me with some options.

Cheers

It still makes me wonder if they put the wrong amp in mine because although its the basic (idrive) audio system, its plenty loud enough other than say with the roof down at more than the legal speed limit. Though I did add tweeters to it to enhance the crispness as I like a nice crisp top end to music.

OP just do a search on here, most have just added an amp in the boot to better drive what's already there.

I do like my music loud so maybe its just me lol . nah! its not, its dire lol

i've got the basic system and play my tunes through the usb port. i found it loud enough but with the roof down, it was a bit pants. i have since added an amp and sub to the boot and it has made a massive difference

took it to a local car audio place. they put some kinda converter in the back of the standard head unit to take the signal from

Where did you take signal from?

More than likely signal would be taken post amp close to the main wiring harness itself (seems the most logical place given other wires would need to be run too)

Probably not the best solution out there, but it certainly does yield improvements over a factory system.

Dont think ive got a usb port, have I? lol

Ive actually got an amp and a sub from my last car. was quoted £300 to fit them which i thought was steep he said hed have to build something as there was no where to site the amp in the boot.

It depends on the size of the amp as the OEM amp on hifi setups is on the rear bulkhead.

Its an audison s4. the guy im talking to is basically saying that the speakers in the car are so crap they wont be able to handle it and that the size and position of the speakers in the car make changing them a not very good option. so im a bit flumodex lol

i think the later ones had it as standard. its in the arm rest. however a friend of mine had a standard unit on his almera and wanted a usb port but the dash would of been such a faff to fit an aftermarket head unit, the same company fitted him a usb unit to his existing nissan system. it cost him about £100 fitted

mine cost me £120 fitted and that included all the bits such as the converter and amp wiring. i just gave my amp and sub. he bolted the amp to the sub box. the box is loose in the boot but it doesnt move around much as its quite big and it fits very snuggly if the roof cover is down. i'll try and post some pics of it tomorrow

Cheers that would be good. do you have any control over the usb? ie next track etc.

yeah on the standard bmw system with the usb, you can use the normal controls to skip tracks and it shows you the playlist on the display etc

on my mates almera, he can use the standard steering wheel controls to skip tracks as the usb system is seen by the car as being a cd changer, so it just says track 1, track 2 etc in his display unit
