My wife's Z4 2.0 2005 has terrible lights especially on dip. Drove it back from Hereford tonight and it was like 2 candles on dip, which was most of the journey. How can these be vastly improved please?
 
Easiest option is brighter bulbs (like osram nightbrakers) but less lifespan or fit an HID kit. Technically not legal but I've done it to mine and many others have too and you can actually see when driving.
 
I was driving my 2.5 home from work this evening, indicated approaching a roundabout and saw all the street signs light up orange. Sadly at this point I realised that my indicators actually project further than the headlights !!

I need to sort mine out, but also to get rid of the horrible yellow side light bulb for a crisp white one.

If Night-breakers are the recommendation for the main lamps, what is the recomendation for the sidelights too ?
 
Have a search on the forum under my name as I recently started a very similar topic. I installed an HID kit after my nightbreakers failed after 6 months. In that thread there is a suggestion of some whiter side lights.
 
IMHO upgrade bulbs are a complete waste of time. The best you seem to be able to get are +130% but that's not in output but rather how the companies measure the beam throw or whatnot. Any bulbs that are whiter will actually output less light. Temporary measure would be to raise the beam using the hex adjuster. Don't go too high or you risk failing MOT and annoying other drivers.

If you really want to be able to see then fit a HID kit. Second MOT with them in last weekend and no issue though I do have headlamp washers. A set of 35W 4300k HIDs will *output* double the amount of light (around 3000 lumens vs 1500 for bulbs).
I paid £55 for the set and replacement burners are £12.50 a pair. Compare that with £25-35 a set of 'upgrade' bulbs which will have a shorter lifespan.
 
The bulbs were replaced eventually and it's made quite a difference. Glad to hear I wasn't the only one. Thanks for the advice from members.
