Headlights

Hello everyone,

I am trying to get my Z4 registered in France but seem to be having trouble tracking down the correct LHD headlights to fit it.

Here are some pictures of what it already has fitted. Can anyone please tell me what type they are and any part number that i can use to find replacements for use in Europe.

Cheers Pete.

Quick Update, I have found these online on Ebay, Can any one confirm if they are going to fit. The seller says they are compatible but they look different.

Those are aftermarket items. They will fit. There's a few guys on here with them on their cars.

Your lights are 3.0l prefacelift headligts (silver inners) You'll need to confirm if xenon or halogen (no dash adjuster, warning stickers under bonnet, delay in igniting, headlight washers (but some halogen have them) are all good indicators of xenon

Easy enough to obtain but will be expensive new, especially if xenon..

If xenon, there is a lever inside that you can move to make them correct for lhd. Not sure if halogens have it.

On a side note you really need to get yourself one of these...

Actually all that does is deletes the left up flick into the path/hedge and thus for driving on the right avoides dazzle. It does not necessarily make them legal to be registered in a European country.

or you could save yourself some money and buy a sheet of 800 grit, 1200 grit and 2000 grit and use wet by hand in that order followed by some very fine polish (like used in bodyshops, not T cut!).

Surely theres some pre facelift left hand drive headlights knocking about on one of the various European ebays etc. Especially if theyre halogen ones your after. A quick resto on your existing ones and then flogging them on here or uk ebay and you'll probably be close to breaking even.

Generally speaking, doesn't the presence of the headlight washer cover indicate that a) it has headlight washers and therefore b) imply it's most likely Xenons? Have a look on the lens at the mould markings / stamps - if you see DS2 or DS4 (I can't remember what's on mine) then they'll be Xenon

(Since by law xenons must have washers, but not the case for halogens?)

All lamps will have both markings on (I assume they use the same outer) and washers was an option without Xenons.

Are you sure about that? (The lens I mean). Pretty sure the lens is marked accordingly - otherwise what would be the point of marking them? ... and If it was the law to mark them, surely it would stipulate they must me marked correctly otherwise there’s no point in it lol

Your right about the washers. I didn’t realise you could have them as an optional upgrade on halogens

This is all confusing and partly wrong (except open rear and look at the bulb back of the bulb)
All have step motors in the headlight (to reset the light to static position (prefacelft)
Washers can be on halogen
DS2 is on all lights as they use the same lens

Tests are:
No manual adjustment on light switch (LCM module)
Warning stickers under bonnet
Self Levelling on front and rear suspension.
1 of each on opposite corners
Flicker on start up as light ‘strikes’
That’ll do, but there are more..

My xenon lights have both D2S and H7 marked above the dipped beam, with H7 again on its own over the flash to pass bulbs.

Also seen halogens with washers. The simplest check is on the light control panel, if it has 2 small wheels it's halogen, 1 wheel is xenon as they self level rather than relying on user input.

Unless you get in my car, which DOES have xenons - but the only black light switch cover I could find to replace my broken grey one (I changed my interior from beige to black etc) had the 2 rollers  of course the levelling roller does nothing. But you know, throws a unique spanner into the “easiest way” haha
