Headlights (Non BMW...)

Evening All,

So my passanger side headlight has a snapped inner angel eye, which I have jammed in place (and it lasted 600m!) but the headlight has been worked on before, has a masking taped up module on the bottom, so it is pretty ropey.

My plan was to fit some after market lights and sell the working headlight and sell the duff one to a forum member who wants the silver reflector.

So I have received these:

BUT, they have 3 wire sets:

which I assume are some sort of DRL power?

Has anyone used these? DIEDERICHS

According to the info on that product page, those lights are for cars with halogen H1/H7 bulbs - if you've got a Z4M, then you've got xenon D2S bulbs.

I think you've run into the same problem as most xenon headlight owners...in that there's very little (if any) after-market options for us.

So while technically it can fit a Z4M, you'd have to remove the xenon ballast/igniter (not needed with halogens) and possibly change the LCM to work with these.

Is it not possible to get an oem one still?
yes, but about £1000 per side from BMW

RHS = 63127162720

ETA, sorry, they've gone up to £1200 per side from BMW (excluding ballast, igniter or bulb).

I just fixed the brackets on mine and got genuine Hella ballasts off ebay/amazon for £50 (it's a common part on lots of manufacturer's vehicles).

Bugger,

I was unsure if the electrical connections would fit, but was assured by the seller "AutoDOC" and a FB group that it can be done, but I didn't consider the ballast issue.

Plus there seems to be a lot of extra wires! time to return and keep scouring FLEABAY

Ahh bargain! :o They any cheaper in Europe?
Schmiedmann lists them for £900 each.

Leebmann24.de lists them for €840 each.

There are a few on ebay from Latvia & Lithuania for less than £800, or direct from a Lithuanian dealer for £750 each:

There's a thread on the main E86 forum where guys are discussing the 2xcite headlights. They look pretty nice but seem to have some problems with LED's throwing up errors on the CAN. Has anyone installed these on their ///M?

I believe they're a halogen headlight upgrade.

The Z4M has bi-xenon, and I don't believe there's currently a simple after-market solution for those.

Your best bet is to do a cut and shut. Install newer LED angels at the same time.
OEM and modified is the way forward IMO :)

Aftermarket headlights pretty much always look cheap so I see it as a blessing in disguise that they are halogen and need to be returned.

I’d be trying to repair what you have and in the meantime see what turns up secondhand. At this point, you’ve got nothing to lose by having a go.

Has anybody else seen the replacement lenses available on Ebay? Anybody bought these? I assume it's a case of unbonding the old lenses and then try to get a good seal with the new ones

I've seen them, I personally think if you spend a decent amount of time sanding and polishing these can come up... plenty of threads and youtube videos (albeit other car headlights).

Unless you have a defect, such as a crack or something, I'd recommend not splitting and tarting up what you have. OEM headlights you have may not be great visually (cloudy/foggy/etc) but the quality is there. I've no idea what the plastic material or longevity of the replacement would be.
