headlights and turn signals don't work

I have a 2005 3.0i and the headlights or high beams will not turn on, but the parking lights (orange) will turn on. The turn signals also don't make the "click" noise or blink on the inside of my car, but the turn signals do blink on the outside when I turn them on. The hazard lights also work. It wasn't working for about a week and then randomly they started to work for about 3 days and now they are not working again. Does anyone have this same issue or know what the problem might be? I was told that the fuses were fine.

Welcome to the forum!

That's a strange one I've not heard of before, not that I have tons of experience with Z4 issues. My best guess is the steering column switch is going bad, but also could be a bad connection somewhere at the switch or the lighting module at the main switches.

As with any strange behaviour with these cars, ensure you have a healthy battery before going nuts with trouble shooting.

thanks for the welcome and the response!

I just changed my battery less than a year ago, so that battery should be healthy but i'll check that! Thanks for the advice!

Best bet is to get the car either into BMW or have someone run DIS software to diagnose the problem. Could be LCM going funny

Sounds to me like a relay has failed - especially as you're not noticing the 'click' in the cabin.

Typically, LKMs (lamp kontrol module) can fail so that is worth looking into as well.
If you have some spare relays, swap out the one designated for those functions. Sometimes a sharp knock can get them working but it's only a matter of time before they fail again.

I agree, but curiously, I cannot find any reference to headlight relays in the Wiring Diagram System (WDS). It'll be hard to check relays if you do not know which ones to check. I find it hard to believe relays are not used, and I certainly could be looking in the wrong places. But I'm pretty familiar with the WDS and there do not seem to be any such devices listed. And yet there is a reversing light relay! Go figure.

Sounds like LCM headlight switch is the problem. You can get second hand LCM but will need coding as it holds mileage info. This can be done with navcoder software. Bmw will say different and need new unit.
