Headlight Woes

Bulb warning light came on the dashboard, checked around and found it was my dipped beam headline on driver side.

Pain in the arse that you have to have the bumper off to get to it all, so had it in a local independent BMW specialist I've found out about recently (fed up of paying dealer prices) and found out it was the control unit in the headlight, due to the headlight being full of water!

New one ordered at £240 plus labour to get it all fixed up and sealed, leaves me £403.80 out of pocket (including VAT).

Anyone else fed up of BMWs firstly forgetting to make their cars fucking waterproof and secondly putting important electrical components at the bottom of said places where water gets in. Thats £1000 for an amp due to water ingress in the boot and now £400 for a headlight due to water ingress in the light.

had the same thing buddy, thats why i went aftermarket. had water in the drivers side unit and the wires rotted away! stealer wanted £740 not including VAT!
 
Ste - if its the xenon ballast that's gone, they are an easy fix 920 minute job to remove bumper and headlight), and you can pick up reconditioned ones on eBay for around £100. Do you know how the water got into the headlight?
 
If its just the levelling motor thats failed I've got a working one, happy to swap for a few beer tokens, drop me a PM if interested
 
I had the exact same thing. The water nearly always gets in from perished rubber seals on the back access panel to the headlight. These need replaced!

I bought a reconditioned ballast (control unit) for £70 and new access panels from bmw for £12 each. I then looked up the bumper removal procedure on here and gave it a go :) so can be a cheapish fix if you do a bit of digging on this forum.

When I removed my old ballast I could hear the water sloshing around inside lol
