Headlight washers

Turn your lights on, wash your windscreen and they should work on the first and then every fifth or so clean :thumbsup:
 
Ah ok. Tried today, nothing. But according to the brochure I found online, they were optional. I'll get the gf to have a look tomorrow.
 
Anyone know why exactly they are required with xenons? I kind of wish I didn't have them. I don't really see the point tbh, just one more thing to go wrong :/

Stops distortion of the brighter beam by removing dirt from the lens

I share a similar dislike of largely pointless equipment like headlamp washers. They are required by law with xenons and are part of the MOT, as ranski says dirty lamps scatter light and blind oncoming drivers. The washers are relatively unreliable frequently leaking, blocking, freezing up or popping off the cover complete with jet at the first sign of frozen snow on the car (the cover sticks to the bumper and is pushed off when the system activates). Lots of threads about problems.

They a bit of grime on the headlight can't make that much difference surely?

I know about the problems - one of my covers had been replaced as it popped off. Still need to get it painted..it's an annoying black blob on the front of my silver car at the mo. Grr.

Actually it makes a massive difference. Think of driving into sunlight with a dirty windscreen vs a clean one. With the former you can hardly see anything.

Design and problems I agree with.
 
Both right of course, if you have xenons. The broader point I realise I didn't get over was that xenons/washers are IMHO, not worth the cost and aggro above quality bulbs in a standard set up unless you do a lot of driving on unlit roads. I have both but would happily do without such expensive to fix gadgets on a ten year old car.
I'm a flimper man at heart :oops:
