Headlight washers

Hi all,

Just had the car MOT'd and although it passed, the washer jets in the front bumper remained sticking up.

There is full-on resistance to push them down. If you get one down and then push the other one, then the other one will come back up.

Before I get someone to remove the bumper, has anyone else had experience with this issue?

Hopefully a simple solution! :|

IIRC they use water pressure built up by the pump to push up then should come back down when the pump stops pumping. Sounds like one of your pipes or the filter on the pump might be blocked. Easy enough to trace back as it’s only two lengths of pipe, but it will be easier to check by taking the bumper off. You might need to remove your headlight washer pump and washer fluid reservoir as well to check them out.

Great advice, I'll look into it!

There’s another thread on here which confirms that headlight washers only tested in the MOT for 2009 onward cars now, changed in 2018.

Personally, I hate the bloody things as I always keep my car clean and they just spray water all over the place, so I’m intending to disconnect them. I’ve spoken to the garage that are doing my MOT and the tester wasn’t aware of the change, so I’ve requested he look it up!

I had a similar issue with one of mine - because it wasn't seating properly all the washer fluid drained out!

I managed to find a replacement on here and Ross managed to fit it for me and get the washers working properly.

After I read about our cars not needing them for the MOT I pulled the fuse (No. 40 I think) and now I don't get streaks along the front wings any more. :D
