Headlight washer unit

I've been noticing a pool of water under the car afte the washer bottle has been filled. Checked the bottle itself but that was ok. Had the washer unit out and it is passing water through the end of the drivers side jets itself.

There is no electrical connection to the unit so can anyone tell me what operates it. Is it just the water pressure from the pump that drives the unit up and Will I need a new unit or is there a seal that can be replaced.

I fixed mine. May not be the same problem though. Mine was leaking from the connector at the base. The O ring seal wasn't seating correctly as the locking clip was missing. New locking clip and fresh O ring. Seals nicely now.
 
Thanks I'll get one ordered. Mines leaking from the top so think it needs a replacement. That must be a strong pump. It takes quite a lot of force to push that spring up. I've disconnected the hose and put a 10mm piece of pipe with a stop end on it as a temporary measure.
 
If they are anything like the X6 ones they can be opened up and cleaned out, there are a couple of seals inside but I am sure if those were knacked they could be replaced somehow
Theres not really much too them and this pic shows some of the sludge that can build up in them and stop them retracting.

I've had it out and taken it apart. There must be a seal as it retracts to stop the water constantly running out. I've put it back together now as we're going away for the weekend tomato in it so I'll have another look next week
 
From what I remember there are 2 seals in the X6 unit.
The orange bit you can see in the pic is one and there is an o-ring attached to the nozzle part that is not in the pic.
 
If you manually extemd and allow the nozzle to retract it will clear it and in most cases reseal it.
Lot easier than replacing it
