Headlight Washer Puzzle

I'm now nearing the 8 week anniversary of owning my Zed and am yet to work out my headlight washers...

They squirt when I squirt my windscreen, but only if I haven't done it for a while. If I do another squirt say 5 minutes later it only does the window and not the headlights, but then maybe half an hour later when I squirt the window it will do the lights too.

I don't see it as a problem, it's more annoying that I can't get my head around when they are going to work and when not - is there some kind of setting on them that means they only work once every 20 minutes or something!!! or... are they supposed to squirt every time and mine are slightly broken?!!

It's something like every 5 squirts it will squirt the headlights but I'm sure someone will give you the exact details.
 
Yeah, designed to save you emptying the reservoir super-fast. Should only squirt the headlights when they are switched on as well. My wife's Honda squirts the lights every time and I spend all winter filling it up. Well, not literally all winter, but you know what I mean :D
 
I dont know about my Z4, but my Disco does this - It only washes the headlamps once ever five or six squirts and even then only in a 30 min period - All down to save wasting expensive washer fluid.

Dont worry about it!
 
Easyjet, the above is right. Only works when the lights are on, and will def fire water at the lights the first time, and then only after a few squirts....

Personally I don't like the feature and it covers the front end with water. When the car is clean, and the window gets a bit mucky...I have been known to stop, turn my lights off, and then squirt the windscreen!

It's the OCD in me that prompted my enquiry. I hate not fully understanding what a button does!

I'm not a big fan of it either. I've not got to the point of pulling over and turning my lights off to wash the window but it does irritate me when you get those second bursts of mist on your screen and all over the bonnet!!

At least I feel better for knowing its not broken!

I am yet to see them work from outside the car and thought I was going crazy the other day when I asked the OH to squirt them so I could watch from the front of the car but then nothing was happening! Will make sure lights are on and it's first squirt then for the next test haha

If you pull and release the washer lever quickly it does not activate the light washers, it just squirts the screen, then pop the wiper lever down to do one pass of the wipers blades. That's what I do if I don't want the light washers to fire up.
 
I just pull the lever and whatever the system wants to wash gets washed. :D

Some automotive engineer and his team has spent days of their working lives on the wash system!

The only time when I wish I could wash the headlights on demand is when some git is glued to to my back bumper with headlights on full blaze!

When the tailgater gets the excess headlight wash on their screen they usually back off! :D
 
I have never had the occasion to use either the headlight washer or the windshield washer. I guess the Z4 is just to much of a garage queen. I use the SLK for dirty work :P
